Date rape. Get him drunk and fill his head with all the good feelings of jamming. Get him to call the drummer, while he's boozed up, and set up a sesh within the week. Work quick, but don't be too pushy.

I definitely agree with you. If I were to get one it wouldn't be for tube break up. I would literally use it to put my amp on 3 or 4 and knock the volume down to apartment levels. I like my Sunns tone a whole lot, but at the lower volume threshold it is pretty loud in my little 1BR. It usually is not a problem because I play when everyone is at work, which is why I haven't pursued the idea further. I am getting new neighbors below me soon and if they had an infant, I may not be able to play my amp much at all, so an attenuator would come in handy. I really need to try and grab a used mb800 as a backup. I am super intrigued by the drive controls. I haven't seen anything other than the 250s at the Crestwood store and Bridgeton is a bit of a drive. My drummer works at the Bridgeton store and he is a gear nerd, but more focused on PA, DJ, guitar and drum gear. He is pretty bass stupid though. I actually had never been to the Bridgeton store until like 6 months ago. I was a little shocked to see FCS, Gibson and a Ric on the wall. Crestwood has nothing but low end gear. Last time I was in they had one MIA Fender Jazz. It was the only american made bass in the store.

Really? Who's the drummer? I might know him! I go to Bridgeton pretty often, and might be going to Crestwood today with a buddy. I find that the "good" stock rotates. Sometimes one has great stuff, sometimes the other. But more often than not, the great stuff is used. That's the only stock I see moving often. New stuff just sits because they don't have anything good. They have TONS of junk, and then a handful of stuff that's way over most people's budget. Maybe a total of 5 basses that are middle of the road, and if it's not your brand/style/visual/etc. it's not worth bothering.

gonna try to jam on sunday with my 28 year old friend on drums, hopefully she'll be high enough to play good, but not so high that she's catatonic, going to fill out the sound with the feedback loop until we can get our stuff together enough to have my guitarist friends check it out

Paul Wood. Although I actually know most of the staff up there via him and my guitarists, both ex-GC employees. Alex from Black Fast, one of the Maness Bros and half of the dudes living with Paul also work there.

@Ender_rpm Bridgeton is far superior to Crestwood. It's a drive for us, but they just have more and better of damn near everything... within the scope of GC merch.

it's only a 304 mile drive from LA to salinas, but i'll have to get some sort of written contract from you that you want to be in a doom sludge band with two bass players that plays free form jazz art rock before i drive all the way up there

+1 Austins got the venues.

Though I have to say I live in a relatively small town (113k), and I live a 5 min walk from the venue I saw weedeater play and live 15 min from two more who would have let weedeater play.

I also have a house I can jam loudly in and own at least two copies of every instrument and amp... So it's my fault I don't play out with a band... Sorry Corey I am not taking advantage of my situation while you suffer... I'll make an ad tonight

The venue discussion, as well as general kinks with finding people to jam with who have similar tastes and other troubles are why I kinda doubt I'll ever get back into gigging in a band playing originals.

I don't have enough amp power to play with anyone right now anyway, but I record my own music intermittently and write original stuff...basslines and riffs at least.

I still very much want to play live again but as I've griped about before, finding anyone around my age where I live who wants to play good music is a lost cause. Of course chances are I'll move somewhere else one of these days and that situation could improve.

But I figure unless I see the right Bass Dude Wanted ad where I could fit the bill, I'll likely shoot for just finding some folks who want to play covers but something other than tired Eagles and George Thorogood bullchit.

If it's the right genre or right theme maybe, I think it could be fun to play with a band doing mostly covers and an original here or there thrown in.

I don't think there's any shame in that and I reckon it's easier to get gigs, even if it's at a friggin' casino.

I'd actually dig heavily on playing a bunch of new wave 80s stuff...Cars, Devo, Blondie, Talking Heads and some heavier stuff like, oh, Misfits and such. Not my fave music in the world necessarily, but it'd be a blast to play and I think would go over well with audiences.

As most of you know I've got a new band in the works. It took a lot of work and time to find these guys, but I think it's going to work out. It's got to be a perfect mix of talent, dedication, attitude, goals, musical preference. It's not an easy thing to do. I'm lucky that the area that we live in has a great music scene, with lots and lots of potenial bandmates. Also a bonus that there's venues here, and it's not difficult to get booked somewhere with an opening slot. Not everywhere is like that.

2nd guitar player made it today, with a new song that's awesome. Both of these guys are just great players. I've never been in a band with two really good lead guitarists, it's something else.

Band field trip to UFOMAMMUT next Saturday should be fun!
