Man allergies are horrendous this year. Everyone in my office looks that they are going to pass out at their desks. Thanks Jan, Iggy is keeping me awake at least!
It IS a bummer. He was one of my faves. I love all the old Hammer/Amicus horror films with Lee and Peter Cushing. Grew up on that stuff.
For my money, Christopher Lee was film's most bad@ss Dracula ever, and by all accounts he was a real gent. RIP, Mr. Lee.
There is nothing about Raw Power I don't love, but Funhouse is not only my favorite Stooges album, it may well be my favorite rock album of all time. There is nothing else like it. The story of the recording of that album is balls too. Apparently Iggy woke up in the pretty sleazy LA hotel they were put up in every morning, downed a handful of acid, then headed to the studio.
I'm not even a big fan of sax in most rock contexts, but Steve Mackay's playing on this album only adds to the insanity.
HC said just drop in new tubes. If the problem persists, they'll give me a shipping label to have them diagnose.
It's a 20 watter, right? At least you won't have to shell out for an SVTs worth of tubes just to determine if you have a problem or not.
Si, 20W. They list 2 x EL84 20w power section and 3 x 12AX7 preamp but, for the life of me, I swear I only saw four tubes in there last night. In any case, I'll get that taken care of next week in time (hopefully) to start some MDT bass tracking. The gain cranked on that thing sounds muy bueno. Mucho breakup.
Edit: Any thoughts on tubes? Sovtek, EHX, cheapest available? Does it matter?

These days cheapest available would be behringer/bugera. I would avoid those, but otherwise I think cheap is fine. I use JJ's for everything they're pretty inexpensive and usually stocked at music stores. I haven't tried more expensive tubes so maybe I'm missing something - but if inexpensive tubes are good enough for JimmyM then they're good enough for me.
I'll prolly just go with what's in stock at the shop. Gonna smash 'em with dirt pedals anyway.
Good gig last night, Hex Volt's 5th ever, and by far my best playing-wise. It was the first time I got through a whole set without dropping my pick, ha! Seriously, ever other show I would reach a point where I just couldn't grip it tightly any more and have to bumble through a few songs barely able to hit the strings until the muscle power came back. Probably just nerves causing me to grip too hard at first. But then again, maybe running through the whole set TWICE the night before, and then actually warming up with some chuggy-speed-picky exercises right before the set might have had something to do with it.
Imagine that.. PRACTICING... and then WARMING UP.. huh, I might be on to something.
In any case it was a blast finally having full command of my abilities through an entire set. Crowd was not huge but very respectable for a Wednesday night benefit show. Good comments all around, and we seemed to make a good impression on the promoter, who does a lot of the stoner/doom/general heavy stuff booking in town, so hopefully it leads to more good shows!

I've said it a hundred times, but for me there is nothing like the feeling of playing live with a band. It's just one of the greatest things I ever experienced.
Maybe on the back of last night's show and the impression made on that promoter Hex Volt will get some opening slots for big bands coming through? You think? That would be so cool.
Playing live is terrifying I don't know why anyone enjoys it. It's like my worst nightmare every time I get up there. I don't like people lol.

Haha. I'm not a major fan of humans either. The only times I ever really got nervous performing was doing solo stuff.
With a band or at least one other person with me on stage, I'm fine, but I'll never again get up there alone. I don't like being the sole center of attention.
I was supposed to be in Tulsa and Tahlequah this weekend incidentally, but we don't have the money.
