I am interested in trying some home recording that would maybe be classified as "heavy ambient." I guess things like some Sunn0))), some of the more experimental/droney Boris and of course the Earth 2 album would be reference points, but I'd like to have it be its own thing as much as possible, bearing in mind nothing in music anymore is truly unique, original or groundbreaking.
I know there are people already doing this sorta work, but if I can walk the line between crushing and trance-inducing, I'd like to go there. Psych/sludge but no vox, maybe no percussion or steady rhythm.
I talk a lot about crap I wanna do, but I need to get off my ass and DO something. Something to do while waiting and hoping I can find people to jam and gig with again, and waiting to score an amp that will make this possible.
I have some audio programs I could maybe use for effects and editing, but mostly plan to do it into one of the digital multitracker devices I have laying around. One of them is a Tascam a friend gifted to me and I haven't even used it yet. That's shameful.
Years ago I was far more prolific and much more into the "work with the tools you have at hand" approach. Hell, I recorded a couple albums' worth of stuff back then with a crappy acoustic guitar and a half-broken tiny Casio keyboard into a hand held tape recorder.
I need to stop letting stuff hold me down and hold me back. Home projects wouldn't be my first choice, but I feel like I gotta do something.
