Stoner/Doom Bassists Thread, Part 90: Maxed Out

Siiigh...pretty goddammm tired of working my ass off and still being poor...actually falling farther behind every month.

But I know I'm no special case and millions live like this. I realize I live like a king compared to most people in the world, have a great family, etc.

Only reason I'm whining is because I was planning to go out of town for my dad's 80th surprise birthday party and, while in that town, pick up a 70s MIJ Ventura EB-3 copy and older Peavey TNT 130 amp for $250 (before haggling) up on CL with the intention of flipping the bass, thereby scoring the amp super cheap or possibly even free.

Of course, typically, I not only don't have the scratch to buy the CL items, I can't even afford to make my dad's birthday. I'm gonna look like a heel for not showing up, but I don't really want to announce to my whole family that I'm such a failure I can't even scrape together gas $ to make a 400 mile round trip.

It may be fortunate, because with my luck my already dangerously rickety car would probably explode or fly apart if I tried to take a trip that long with it.

At least it's Friday and I only have to work a half day today.

I think that's most of the United States at this point.

I have a good job, so does my wife, but I still take all the overtime I can get and buy used gear to flip for a (small) profit. I've been pulling 10 hour days all week trying to get back a bit of a cushion in the checking account. We don't even have kids to pay for. CL400 has two full time jobs, we're all busting ass and struggling.

That's not to sound like I'm unsympathetic - I know what you're going through - but you're certainly not alone in your struggle.

Yep. That IS the way. Was just bummed about the amp and especially my old man's surprise party. Just a disappointment. Sorry to beetch.

I hear you. My best friends in town are a childless couple, both have good jobs and live pretty meagerly (although my buddy has about a dozen kickass drum sets!) but they struggle too.

CL400 has two full time jobs, we're all busting ass and struggling.

See, this is what makes me feel like a real tool. Everyone's got it rough. I have worked two full time jobs at various times in my life, but haven't done that (probably wouldn't be able to handle it anymore) since my kids were much younger.

That's not to sound like I'm unsympathetic - I know what you're going through - but you're certainly not alone in your struggle.

Heck, I just wish that the younger generation GOT fiscal responsibility. All the kids I know and have taught (I'm a teacher, by the way) just think they're going to be given a job that makes great pay and they don't have to do crap to earn it or keep it. Completely entitled. Though I guess with the new $15 minimum wage everyone will be able to prosper, right? Can you imagine a 16 year old kid making that much disposable income? (Because almost no 16 year old kid would save it!) No good can come of it.

Yeah, but what about your time? That's worth it to me! Free time is the most valuable thing as far as I'm concerned, and even if you keep a part time job just for extra cash, will you have a net gain in free time? That would be my question.

Don't feel too bad Mudd, you should hear how the rich people whine at my office when they finally did a current reassessment in the county I work for. Oh you mean I have to pay my fair share of county taxes for my weekend get away McMansion on water front property after paying way less then I should have for the last ten years, oh boo hoo hoo. Please make me a map of my property so I can go cry the blues about it to the other office. I don't even have kids in this school system, well you went to school somewhere didn't you, you POS. Or yesterday a person built another mansion on the water and decided they don't like other people driving on the private lane they live on to their homes so we are putting up an electric fence. Well you don't own the road and other people live on your road so just telling me doesn't make a difference. Yeah ok thanks, I will let the sheriff's office and the codes enforcement office know right away so they can halt the illegal building process or just have the fire company break through your nice new electric gate! Talk about entitlement!

Yeah, your investment here is worth more than that.:D

Money is important only if you don't have enough. To me time is more valuable than anything. If going to a new job meant I could drop my side job, I would be gone in a heartbeat.
Then again that's me, and we all deal with different stuff different. I detest being told what to do, just can't stand taking orders from dumbasses.
The less time I have obligated to somebody I don't like the happier I am.

I would totally loose it. 5 year vesting period. They do this to try and retain people, as what I give up will go back to those in the pool.

At the onset both accounts would be growing at the same rate. There seems to better long term opportunity there though.

See I love my side job. It just doesnt pay real adult money.

No one tells me what to do, I am usually the one other people default to on decisions. I get to kick ass every night.

That sucks but like the other guys said, more money and less time working a week and I would be all over that like marrying a mute hottie and never learning sign language.
