Well your about equal distances from my home town of davenport, Chicago, Indianapolis and st Louis. Close to Peoria which has a good music scene and some decent shops. You couldn't be more centrally located to so many big cities.

That's kinda how I feel in CR: four hours from Chicago, St. Louis and Omaha, two hours from Des Moines, five hours from Kansas City and Minneapolis.

Champaign is decent; it has a Big Ten university so it should be a bit livelier than most Midwestern mid-sized towns.

My wife is, once again, with child.

I've never had it be an issue with bands that had released anything, but very often when coming up with band names.

Gotta be even harder these days. That sucks and I hope it's either not a problem or you can work it out.

I sent them a "nice" Joe note that I've busted my ass the last 3 years promoting the name, included out video from last year, and asked if there was a possibility that they call themselves something else.

The crappy part is, I'll bet they didn't even look it up. They just started using it without giving a shot who else might have came before. It might be my crotchety side coming out, but it seems like that's the disconnect between my generation, and the next. I spent at least an hour googling the rabbit hole of band names to be certain it was original(as a band name at least)

I hope your notes works and/or at least they realize it will cause confusion for them too. You are right, why are people to lazy to Google(GIMF). I am thinking maybe the Doomers on FB should start blowing up their page with your bandcamp link.

Yeah, and that sh!t was far harder back in the pre-'net days, but me and those I knew always tried to research that down as far as possible, for one, out of respect if another band already had the name and were using it, for another because, hell--you don't wanna use a name that's already taken...could confuse people (especially nowadays) and it's just uncool.

Isn't there a way to copyright (or maybe more precisely trademark) a band name & logo? May be prohibitively expensive as far as I know, but might be worth it, again, especially these days.

Bummer. I always thought everyone does that. When we were choosing our band name, we spent like a week googling every name we came up with to find out if anyone uses it.

I haven't been in Illinois in many years but I lived in Chicago ca. 1992-1994 and aside from some of the gentrified burbs (such as Evanston) I always thought Champaign was the only other nice town I saw in that state.

But I certainly didn't cover the entire state or anything and I am sure there are plenty of nice towns in Illinois.

My biggest issue with the Midwest and the mid-USA in general is it's landlocked state. When I lived in Oregon I got so spoiled for the Pacific. I lived near the East Coast for a time too, but I didn't care for the Atlantic coast as much for some reason.

I've spent a lot of time traipsing the Gulf Coast, and there is a lot of beauty there--but it just ain't the same.

Then again, between Fukk-u-shima radioactivity and quake/tsunami and hurricane possibilities, I don't know if living inland isn't more judicious.

An early pass learning to use the Minitaur. Still have some work to do paring down the original bass (guitar) line to a synth bass line...but the tone is hella fat. It goes way low.

I would love to move again, just to see more of the country, a different climate, maybe a better paying job in my field, and access to a local music scene but living in a small inter coastal village with zero crime is so relaxing.

Nah... No finesse and they cant work for you late in to their life like that. A sharp Wustof, and a few layers of skin is beyond painful.

That is effen cool. I like how the sweep of the synth is barely noticeable too.
