Stoner/Doom Bassists Thread, Part 90: Maxed Out

Well I'll give my top five fuzzes at least:

Ruiner, BB, VT, TFR and Brown Dog. I guess VT isn't technically a "fuzz" but I run gain 3/4 or so up and it's pretty fuzzed out.

If I'm being serious, no particular order:

Dunwich Cthulhu Fuzz, Dunwich Wizard Fuzz, Wren & Cuff Pickle Pie B, Magic Pedals Magick/Shrine Fuzz, smallsound/bigsound TAFM

Here's the blood-red beauty you gentlemen have so kindly been helping me with. Thought I'd show her off! She works like a charm now! The next picture is my main bass these days. Both are awesome! And you can see bits of my newly "finished" practice space. I'll eventually do some more to it, but it works fine for a bunch of sweaty dudes making some tunes as is.

How would you say cabbage fart/gas in polish? That would be a pretty doom name.

Something like Pierdy z Kapusty? (pierd is fart and kapusta is, well, cabbage :D)

Our band is called RAÖDM - which is pretty much the name of the city we're all originally from - Radom.
We had this stupid drunken conversation once that we shoud all get tattoos of our home city name on our stomachs in gothic font, but, to embody the city's nature (it's pretty much a shvthole and has a quite peculiar reputation in Poland), it should be written with a mistake - hence RAÖDM. We also went through Cult of SNAFU and Hunter-Gatherer, none of these were devised while sober.

Please, please, please tell me the O is around your belly button.....

I think you can cheaply "copyright" something like a band name by mailing a copy of an EP/album/whatever with the bands name on it, to yourself. Effectively the post mark will create a defined point in time that you were in possession of the name. Anyone who would contest that would be forced to provide irrefutable proof that they were using the name before you. More than likely they will not be able to.

I am not a lawyer though. I just have a couple judges and a dozen or so lawyers in my family. This tid bit didn't come from them though. I had always heard it used when trying to take official claim of an idea.
I heard of this before. Would the dated YouTube video prove the same?

Yes, I've heard that called "the poor man's copyright." And I can see it working but I have heard tell that it doesn't always stand up in court.

Of course, when regarding court-related outcomes, it typically comes down to who can afford the most expensive attorneys.

Still think it is a good idea though. I've always heard you mail something to yourself (whatever you want to protect) and DO NOT OPEN IT. The postmark proves the date and if sealed could be opened in court, etc.

I just don't know, but it's not a bad way to at least try and protect intellectual property, etc., and it has the benefit of being something anyone can afford.

I take the approach to band names that they all sound weird until you like the band, so I just pick weird band names that no one likes at first from the start. I usually search stuff on Google extensively, then see if it's taken on gmail, Bandcamp and a few other places where band names sort of get registered by default.

Once when laboring over a name (and often finding ones we came up with were already in use) some friends and I resorted to each writing a few words on individual scraps of paper, then pulling 2 or 3 out at random.

Through that method we came up with the most excellent potential band names of:

Japanese Cavity Blow

and

Bloated Shotgun.

We...decided not to go with those.

When I came up with Warp Rig, it was just as a riff on War Pigs and it sounded kind of sci-fi. Not only were there no bands with that name, there were practically no Google results. I've been thinking about asking the other guys from that band if they don't mind me just keeping the name for future use, since I came up with it and made the logo and they all just sort of stopped showing up to practice to do other bands.

Minerals gathered in the grasses
Just like whiskey and stacked matches
Weevil knights that plot obstruction
Seal the bowels that will not function...
Alright now!

Sounds to me like it's yours to do with as you like. And it IS a cool name. I dig it.

Hahaha...love it.

I don't presume to take it without asking, I'm still friends with those guys. There was no falling out or anything, the other guys just lost interest I guess. At a certain point of trying to schedule practice and months go by and it never happens, I just stopped asking. I recorded the guitarist's new band's album after that.

Have to ask one of the Madison/Milwaukee crew, but I think that's the name of an old Wisconsin convenience store beer.

Sure as hell should be, anyway.

Latka Soiling

Can you tell I am excited to eat ethnic food on my trip back home to PA next week! I can't wait to hit up Jones Pancake House, potato pancakes smothered in apples sauce!

I even found a simple solution for taking kava with me! Have kava, will travel LOL.

That's how it was supposed to be. Never got to do these, though. Our guitarist has the weirdest tattoos, like Cylon helmet or his postal code, so maybe...

The English-to-Polish online translator I just used returned Cabbage Fart as
"Kapusta Pierdnięcie."

Obviously Id leave it to Speedor for accuracy.

Yeah, that's how it would be word for word. Polish grammar is pretty fvcked up, we've got 7 cases and more exceptions than rules.
Pierdnięcie z Kapusty would be grammatically correct, Pierd z Kapusty is just abbreviated version.

...but it doesn't sound very doom in Polish :D
