I'm a half hour or so south of the shizzhole known as OKC. I can get to STL in under 7 hours and used to make the trip fairly often when I lived in Tulsa (more like 5+ hours.) I dig Saint Loo. Went up there twice to try and catch Chuck Berry and the shows got cancelled both times. Also played there a few times back in the 80s in a terrible punk band or two. Hard to remember now, but I recall the crowds being very cool.
Re: ampage, my problem is one of economics. I just have so little to spend.
Right now I think my best option is a Fender Rumble 150 combo. I have a line on one in OKC and may go check it out/come home with it this weekend. Guy says it's like new, still has stickers and tags, still 2 yrs of warranty left..he's asking less than half of what they cost new.
I just can't swing anything better right now. Would love to have a head/cab setup, and I do find lots of good deals on one or the other around here, but I'd end up with a head or a cab then have to wait months longer to afford the other half of the rig.
Of all the 100-150W combos anywhere near me, the Rumble 150 seems like the best deal and they get the best reviews. Should be loud enough to play with the guys I know and if I were ever to gig it, it at least has a line out.
Absolute best I can do is $200 or so, and if I don't jump on something soon that'll be gone and I'll have to wait bob knows how long to have any more spendy cash for an amp.
There's a local shop that has a 200W combo amp--Sundown B310 is the model name--they also make a "B315." the B310 is a 210 and the B315 is a 115. They only have the B310. I have NOT tried it out, but while Sundown apparently once made decent-ish amps, this looks to be a situation where somebody bought the rights to the Sundown brand name and is having amps made out of aluminum foil and compressed discarded newspapers assembled by 12 year old Chinese kids.
Actually the amp doesn't LOOK so bad...looks like decent components from the outside. But I can find ZILCH about this make/model anywhere on the internet. Also weighs 600 lbs, or feels like it.
Assuming I tried it out and it actually sounded okay (and also assuming it didn't fry out, implode, explode or meltdown first time I pushed it at all) the one advantage to this amp is I could put half the $$$ down and pay it off soon after, freeing up a little $ for some other crap I need...trying to score a decent P-bass pickup on the cheap to put in an old SX bass I am trying to bring back from the brink.
