Stoner/Doom Bassists Thread, Part 90: Maxed Out

No we dont.

Those markets are flooded, and for the most part those positions have seen a massive decline in adjusted pay rate over the past 50 years. We need people willing to work "regular" jobs in this country, and pay for those jobs to be liveable.

I agree with the pay live able wage part.

I could never agree we don't need more research and medical professionals (CNA, RN, PA, MD) If the market is flooded, something is wrong. There should never be a cap on science or advancing the human race. So while opportunity and pay might be decreasing, that shouldn't be a reason to forgo those options if you are capable and eager, in favor of working a regular job.

Not bad for personal protection either.

Problem is those positions are already few and far between, and don't pay for sh!t. Why go to school, accrue debt, only to make a piss poor wage. A trade school is more effective way of earning a living.

I say follow your bliss because you should try to? I'd rather die right here and now than settle on a "job" just cause. I want to do what I want and I'll do anything I have to, to achieve that.

It's true very few people's dream is probably following the seasons to pick apples and stuff. And those that have to or chose to make that living do deserve a better wage and so do most people. But regardless of how much certain jobs pay there is a stigma attached to some. Your name is the janitor and you've been there done that. I used to clean restrooms. You could probably have stuck with it and created your own cleaning company, but shag cleaning right? You keep it as a reminder nothing's beneath you, and you'll work hard. Though given the opportunity to go back to cleaning for a living for the same pay and advancement opportunities you have now would you do it? You found something you like better, maybe it's not your ideal perfect but it's clearly better to you.

I think better wages and compensation are needed, but I don't think the world would change much as a result. The same people for the most part would be in the same place they are now. I don't want to work in a kitchen ever again regardless of pay to a point. Julian wants to more than anything regardless of pay to a point.

poopie pay matters less if you are happy. You should know that better than anyone, otherwise you'd be a waiter at your restaurant as you've said many times.

The freedom of choice isn't always money or sense based. Still I'd rather waste money and make bad choices figuring it all out versus submitting/settling. Or God forbid having my life determined by a standardized placement test (fallout approach of taking the G.O.A.T ).

@TurkeypillSLEEP you bring up a point with the AR-15.

I've always told employers about my flipping music gear and it always peaks their interest. I could talk them for a bit about previous work experience and school. But I can talk for days about flipping and fixing. I think it makes you look more personable, but also shows you are capable of sitting down by yourself and learning something then making it happen.

Sure work and school prove that to a degree. But to say hey look, even in my down time I learn and create value is a good thing.

Bryce I don't disagree with your sentiments. I will say that the reality of life sinks in quick for a lot of people. They end up taking something because they need to, or move to something they hate because they have mouths to feed.

See my grandpa got my grandma preggers at 15 and they had to raise mom and right after her sister too. All that time he was the only bread winner, he worked at a gas station and every Monday pawned his alarm clock radio to pay for food until he got paid on Friday. So all week long his dad would have to call him to wake up. He also went to night school and got a degree in aerospace engineering during that time.

While I agree life will bite you by the balls and take you unhappy places. I was raised where it doesn't have to if you try so I have a hard time with just settle.

Also I'm all for abortion so idk if I'd face to the sudden mouth thing lol.

I get that people don't get these same options. I just have a hard time ever believing all good options are truly exhausted.

Acid king is on Amazon. Never listened to them before.

Really really dig the vocals. Turns out that it's a lady, nothing wrong with that, but I just kept thinking damn this person sings in my range and I could possibly do that haha.

Any other examples of metal vocalists who aren't deep rumbling growlers, but more mid/high range? Mars red sky and Ewiz aren't to low in the vocals.

That bolded part says it all. I would be happy enough to still be working min wage at a record store or somewhere if I was single. Not that I didn't have larger (and even realistic) ambitions when I was single, but taking on a wife and children is an entirely different paradigm altogether. What it comes down to, really, is that you are now responsible for the well-being of other people.

That sounds weighty, but it's far weightier when you are in the thick of it.

This is not a complaint; I feel honored to have my wife and daughters and I would, literally, do anything for them. When I became a husband, but particularly when I became a father, some deep-seated, evolutionary biological imperatives came out of me. Such as "I would jump in front of a bullet to save the life of this person." It's not a thought process--it's just what you would do. No questioning, just impulse.

Imaginre being responsible for yourself. Now multiply that by the number of people in your nuclear family and add a few more multiples because somehow it's more than just being responsible for X number of individuals--it's that PLUS taking care of the family as a whole unit.

No matter how experienced and intelligent and mature a person is, it is not possible for them to truly realize, or for another person to convey to them, how different life becomes, especially after children.

Brother Corey can preach on this as well.

If I make it sound all negative and gloomy, it is not. It's rewarding and fulfilling and challenging and scary as fvck all at the same time.

I don't believe they may all be truly exhausted either. But things ARE considerably different nowadays than they were when your gramps knocked up your grams.

There used to be something of a social contract where you worked and gave your time and energy to a company, firm, organization, etc. and in turn, they took care of you.

Not that way so much anymore.

And of course there are entire industries (most manufacturing, for example) that are more or less vanished from the American landscape.

Even holding three big degrees in major, marketable fields doesn't guarantee you will ever be anything other than a window washer.

Yep, having a kid changes everything. Some of it is hell, but it really brings meaning to the phrase "it's the little things in life". You can feel like sh*t, sleep deprived, frustrated and see a baby smiling at you because you're you and feel a punch in the heart like you can't believe. It's sappy as f*ck, but awesome. I was already kind of a fun dad, I just didn't have any kids. Now I have a better excuse for being a goofy weirdo all the time and my exhaustion and depression are more publicly legitimate.

I'm buying a cheap guitar to mod up for playing some death metal. Gimme your opinions...$110 for satin natural finish, which I can sand down and spray paint flat black or $140 for gloss black? It's death metal, so black finish is mandatory either way.

I really think it has more to do with how pointy it is rather than how more black it could be. This should do it:
