Sup Gentlemen. Been a minute. They finally upgraded the router and modem at the club I work at so I can get usable internet in my DJ booth again. Been trying to catch up with you guys for days.

Interesting as always to see what you all have been up to. Well done.

Had some additions to my jam room. Forgot my camera tonight so pics will have to come tomorrow. Yeah I remember the rule.

Have any of you guys tried the Morley Cliff Burton Tribute Series Power Fuzz Wah Pedal? I got one coming, I couldn't help myself.

I also found another Destroyer. It's a reissue of my first ever bass. I couldn't help myself. Still waiting to hear if I actually got it. A few places had it listed but didn't actually have it. Really hoping I get it.

Anyway, good to be back hangin with the Doomgrinders.

It just wasn't high priority. I had just dropped a **** load of coin on a whole new rig and my G&L. Had to though, needed ass for my band. Still working it down. I'm terrible at money management and have bad GAS. Actually I'm not that terrible. My debt doesn't really grow, it just doesn't really go down either. Trying to fix that. I'm finally squared away and gas free amp, pedal and bass wise. Dually is 80% paid for. I'll probably grab dually number 2 with my bonus check next January and make a fat credit card payment with my tax return. I also support my gf about 65% of the way. She doesn't make much money and had little to no advice when selecting a school and major. No one told her that a psychology BA from a private school was not the best idea. Also no one told her that oil needed to be changed PRIOR to the check oil light turning on, so last year she blew up an engine. My uncle is a mechanic so we got a new/used engine for a good deal and labor was basically enough for him to buy a bag of green, but the refinance to pay for it basically turned her almost paid off car into what she originally paid for the car. 'Twas a big ass bummer.

Practice today. My guitarist is adamant on finishing this one song we've been noodling on for almost a year now. It's been worked and reworked 3 times now, riffs were added and dropped, tempo changed and so on. For me it's just a creativity blocker, I told him to drop it for a while and get going with other riffs we've got queued up, but he just won't budge. Ugh.
Hopefully, we'll end it tonight and move on.
It's just creative process differences I guess. He works on a problem until it's solved, I tend to skip a problem that takes me too much time and get back to it further along the way.

I've always agreed with Mike from Yob, that if it takes a lot of work to make the song work then it's probably not really a good riff in the first place.

Newer stuff-wise, I've been missing Comets on Fire. I don't think they've put anything out in almost 10 years. I was into them pretty deep. Any fans here?

I know there are some affiliated/offshoot projects like Howlin' Rain (which I haven't heard) but I want some new CoF.

On that topic - you buy from Kava by Rex, right?

Any preference on the variety? How long does a pound last you? I've been drinking the hell out of the Yogi tea, thinking about trying something different. Was just going to get the most powerful one to be cost effective. Thoughts?

i respectfully disagree. probably a third or even half of our songs did not come together easily. many times we have riffs laying around for over a year before we figure something out with them. you just need to know when to step away or admit defeat so as to not alienate each other.

songs that took a long time for us (6 months +):

Hamartia (we tried to make it a full song for 3 or 4 years, it was a last minute decision in the studio to record it as an acoustic guitar interlude)

Edit I would skip Kava by Rex now that I have used it for a while, it is ok and cheap but not very strong. I have been mixing it with my Borongoru to finish it off. Edit, you can make it strong as I did last night but it is more sedative then euphoric and not the strain I personally dig.

I like the Kalm with Kava Borongoru better as it is stronger per same amount although pricier(ten percent coupon if you join the kava forums). The KWK Borongoru is perfect after work kava. It washes away your stress, relaxes your body some, makes you sleep easily and you wake very refreshed. KWK seems like a more high end run establishment too. It's about $50 shipped a pound for KWK and the better vendors.

I am looking for a bit of a more euphoric kava for Friday nights and weekends now and will probably pick up some KWK Fiji Loa Waka.

Another cheap but good kava is Kavaboy from what I read on the forums but it is said to more on the euphoric side. I think it is like $39 a pound shipped. Also a discount on the kava forums.

I have been using about 2 to 3 tablespoons of root per 16 ounces of water for my nightly drink. I drink about 1/3 of the 16 ounces in 15 minutes intervals on an empty stomach(4 hours or so no food). I usually make two nights worth and then do a second wash and third wash and strain and drink that right after prep as a kind of treat. I used concentrate while on vacations but I am in my second month of drinking and bought 2 pounds(1 pound Rex Vauatu3 and 1 pound KWK Borongoru) and still have a half pound or more root left total. So I would say a pound a month would work for daily drinking. The strength comes from how well you prep, but it is easy to get the swing of. Also some people get reverse tolerance where sometimes it takes a few weeks to really start working well consistently and can be hit or miss during that time, once you break through RT it works every time(which is awesome!) I have to admit I have completely lost my wanting of green or alcohol and only want kava. I use it daily and have lost my worry wart mentality, I am happier, sleep better, and overall feel better.

I can talk kava all day, sorry. Any questions hit me up, and I can tell you how to prep on the cheap with some cheap kitchen supplies if you buy some root. Definitely check out the kava forums even if just for the coupons and discounts. I would definitely recommend starting with the KWK Borongoru as it is a main stay with the dudes on the kava forums as their daily use kava and I complete agree with them.

Also there is usually only ten dollars difference between meh and great kava. There are all kinds of reviews and a watchdog vendor list to stay away from on the kava forums that is very helpful for finding your brand/strain of kava.

We're sorta in between, we prefer it to come together in 2-3 jams, we will generally walk away if we flog it 4+ times and we're just not feelin' it. We walked away from one like that a while ago, I was bummed because I even had lyrics and stuff. A few weeks later we had a spontaneous jam that was pretty hot that we wanted to do something with, so I took the lyrics and a particular chord progression from the abandoned song and grafted it into the new jam, still took us at least three weekly practices to lock everything down, but hey now it's a new song. I've had that chorus progression and the vocal melody with that from a song I was writing for a different band 4+ years ago that I just never finished. Writing songs is kind of like sifting through my boys' lego bin. You find partial bits of destroyed / abandoned vehicles that still have some useful structure and you put them together, slap some new wings/engine/laser cannons on them and then you have a new toy.
