Stoner/Doom Bassists Thread, Part 90: Maxed Out

Uuuuuuh too bad Riff Reapers first band cant play...

Also in the "its a darn shame" category someone made a pretty fvckin cool fan video for our Earthless tribute song Ouroboros...

Bummed you guys won't be there, I guess Jeff offered a slot to Emerald Douglas but Jon turned it down.

We'd be ready to go if it weren't for Joe's busted wing. He's in PT now and should be ready to go in a few weeks. Going to ask Jeff about Bachfest, should be more than ready by then.

Drove to blue voodoo guy and he had the matching 4x12 non-slant too. The first thing he did was go remove the preamp tube protective sleeve and break it and get glass all over the turned it on.

I immediately turned it off and told him to stop doing that to amps. I fiddled with a couple extra preamp tubes and nothing. Lights up but nothing, so maybe it's the power amp tubes. Well I got the head and cab for $60. Cab has speakers that need wiring, but it's real plywood and heavy as hell.

Ouch! Yeah dude, stop doing that, haha!

Risky buy if that's the way dude treats his stuff. But you should be able to make your money back on the cab alone. Amp might just end up being a chassis + parts for a Hovercraft style upcycle.

He said he got it before college, moved back to town and pulled it out of the garage and it didn't work.

I just cracked the cab open, it's not hurt at all. All that's wrong is its unplugged from the jack circuit board, so I'll have to figure out where the wires go. Sadly not a v30 filled crate, no names just blank 16 ohm speakers with some numbers. Very heavy solid cab though.

I got in a GFS Power Rails pickup and some locking Gotoh style tuners for the Ibanez guitar I bought real cheap. Going to turn it into my little thrashmaster. I was looking into cheap old solid state amps to use with it, but my friend offered to sell me the Randall RG120 (non ES model, "Classic" I think) that he used on all the Mental Waste recordings for $100 and pay him whenever I feel like it. I'm considering it, no idea how loud it is. Can't beat that deal if it's even just barely loud enough to play shows and who knows if I'll ever get anything going to that level. Just going to write some Terrorizer style riffs or something for fun and see if I can find a drummer to play for it.

I have, but only with a guitar. I remember thinking it was pretty good...any way you can try it out?

Supposedly it is some great stereo chorus worth between $100-300 to the right person?

No good demos, and all mono. The reviews all say in stereo it's heaven. The robin guy of cocktaeu twins used it?

Guy has a lot of other cool stuff so I'll probably do the trade or a trade with him.

Anyone have any experience or warnings with the idea of turning a 4x12 into an oversized 2x12?

What's better if the bass vi or guitar is the primary use. No real bass. No real immediate plans. Might flip the cab if something else could come, but if I keep it, I'd want to fix it up.

The bass vi > DC-3 > dirt paths cathedral into those two stacks would be some space stuff. Need a stereo delay probably too.

dang work has blocked talkbass, hence my absence. got an MF Delay but i'm not finding big use for it yet, i think it would be better served somewhere else as my bass already does some extreme feedback of its own accord. need something more reverby for clean passages i think.

hey @bassboysam how's the Afterneath?

amazing! i just wish it had a master volume. i may throw it in a loop with a micro amp or something eventually.

not quite the same level of intimidation some of you have going on, but it gets more than loud enough to get evicted
