Stoner/Doom Bassists Thread, Part 90: Maxed Out

[Invalid or Expired Link Removed]

Anyone have any experience with these? They come up for sale every so often at semi reasonable costs.

This guy tells me he turned it on without plugging it into a cab after the said preamp tube died to see if it would turn on. I'll bring a tube, cab and bass vi and see if it works and offer $50-$70 see what happens.

I for one cant wait to get the fvck out of this glass case of boredom booth life Ive been stuck in for way too long. I start my sprinklerfitter apprenticeship on the 20th.

Also NPD yesterday...my Old Blood Noise Procession came in, dank verbitude indeed. Cant wait to try it through PVYHenge. Of course I already put PVY knobs on it.

You are going to get ripped doing that job. My dad and uncle both worked in this field. Best shape the of their lives.

No direct experience, but there's one on the local CL that keeps popping up for very little money. They've got to be better than a SS Crate head. I'd be worried about the OT if the guy turned it on w/out a speaker for any length of time. Might be good for the chassis/parts...

If it turns on and plays could it still be a ticking timebomb or if it still plays should I be ok?

My buddy has the 120 version. He loves it, and I think it sounds great! The cleans sound amazing, the distortion is just as good. That being said, I'm not a tube aficionado by any means as this is my first real time with any tube amp, and I'm not even the one playing it. But hey, if it was good enough for Marty Friedman...

Actually, there's a Marty Friedman signature version of the Blue Voodoo, both head and cab, on my local CL for like $1200 I think. Got a plaque on it and everything! Because that justifies how much it's going for...

If he just turned it on for a minute it should be ok - kind of hard to say though.

Crate stuff gets a bad rep but a lot of it is decent gear. FYI for everyone here - if you see a crate guitar cab with a red logo badge it's loaded with Celestion greenbacks. A lot of people don't know that and I still see them floating around for rock-bottom prices.

I'll be honest I'll have to google Marty Friedman. So far I've read they made the 60/120, then redid the amps and went 150/300. Apparently they owned ampeg and the 300 watt is 3 channels a svt, drive and a hi gain channel in one head box at 80 pounds.

Marty Friedman was the guitarist of Megadeth during what was often considered their best period. He's a fairly progressive shredder, but tasteful. At least in Megadeth. Not sure about his solo stuff.

Oh see I only enjoy the shredded cheese I can eat ;)
Well, he's not one of the wanking shredders. He's actually good. And he knows gear pretty well. Regardless, the amp that is currently in my basement sounds great, and he used to use them. Don't know if he still does. They're solid, often cited as the best Crate has ever made. (Which I guess wouldn't be saying much to many people, but hey.)

Oh I'm just kidding, I'm def gonna go check it out. HM-2 guy got back to me too.

A pn-2 variant set to pan two different dirt paths both meeting in a cathedral reverb out to two amps. Think that's the plan now.

Getting a fender bxr100 1x15 tomorrow for $30 maybe $25. Needs the input cleaned as it cuts in and out. I'll see if that's the case.

My first real amp was a bxr200 1x15 that was crazy loud it seemed and sounded great with or without pedals. We'll see if this is or I'll put it back up for trade.

Hmm. Local CL has a BXR300 115 for $100. I was intrigued by it (not familiar at all with the BXRs.)

Seller is saying the pots got so bad on the preamp section bypassed it with an external preamp into the main power and claims it worked great.

Thing is pretty beat looking. Seems a good deal for a Benjamin, but can't do it with that other amp I have in layaway.

i guess we are doing digital by joy division super slow now, might have to use the drum machine, cause the usual erratic drumming isn't really gonna fly with such a percussive song

That's a cool choice for a cover. An old band I was in used to do Atmosphere.

I oughtta see about a real drum machine sometime when I have the $$$. The one I have is a joke..old Yamaha with electronic pads, and not programmable. Always prefer live drums, but it'd be nice for recording and jamming.

What's your guys thoughts on the Earthbound Audio Supercollider? Seems like it's out of favor these days, but I've always been curious. Might pick one up on the cheap if I can. I'm thinking it would be a tighter fuzz than my Pharaoh, which I still love, but have no need for at the moment. It's on my guitar board for now. So, Supercollider?

i'm supposed to make some drawing about it too for a show in NY, i already assembled the ak47 cartridges into the old nirvana dead smiley face logo, i'm trying to get all this stuff done, but i can feel it closing in, as patterns start to form

it's good to be productive, but the 15 and 16 hour days are killing me

That sounds weird.

They are like a solid state hartke ha3500 with a few differences between wattage levels. 300 is more straight forward. The 200 had chorus and switches for baked in tonal options like a rb400. Not sure what's on the 100 but looked somewhere between a 200 and 300.

Apparently the 300 was also a head, and krist noviselic played it until they got famous post never mind.
