Phx to Tucson is more like an hour and a half. 120 miles or so. Used to be a shuttle bus between the towns for like $20 as I recall, but that is slower and more expensive than just driving. Wouldn't think of it as commutable, but Tucson is plenty big for jobs and places to live.

I do know some pretty crazy, doomy desert rats out there as well as some equally nuts mountain dwellers.

All of them are the nicest people. But they all dig heavy drinking, heavy smoking, heavy music, motorcycles and guns.

AZ is a great place to go if you wanna do your thing your way and not be fvcked with. Got everything from desert to lush mountains. Beautiful women too.

I did have a couple run ins with d!ck cops though.

Garage sale score! Ampeg AC12, 1970, 20W, all tube - $50.00.

Probably needs some work, will probably flip it after i clean and fix it up.

Well it works just fine, only the slightest bit scratchy in the pots and i couldn't test the effects because i still haven't dug out my two button footswitch. Sounds pretty decent, imagine it'll only sound better after i check/replace the tubes and replace the caps. Clean pretty much all the way up, original speaker sounds good. Sounded GREAT with the OD Glove.

So far so good!

Both circuits the guy builds are super simple, but he's got all the components including NOS, that me buying just enough for one would be cost prohibitive.


He just got back to me and reminded me that one pedal is center positive and the other begative so they wouldn't be able to share power, he also implied he is not willing to combine the two or even just source a bigger box for the fuzz (I hate knobs on the side).

I guess I'll have to get them both, but I wonder if he'd sell me the wired up fuzz rats nest sans box so I could make my own enclosure.

I am down for the Desert Doom Compound! We need to start some Kava Bars up in Tucson And Phoenix also.

If you get that mutli-pedal I suggest a switch to switch between which sides runs first into the other side of the pedal. Though most likely a fuzz face is going to want to be first in the chain.

I just joined a stoner/doom band and feel a little out of my depth tone wise. Closest stuff I've ever really listened to is Sabbath, Witchfinder General or Pentagram. The band leader suggested I check out Sleep and Orchid also. Got any other suggestions for me?

Also, what's a classic bass sound in the genre? I'm yet to jam with the whole band and have just used my MicroCube while learning songs with the guitarist, but once we're rehearsing properly I'll use my SVT 3PRO, Wren and Cuff Pickle Pie B and Aguilar Tone Hammer preamp. I usually like a bit of a mid-scooped sound, is that okay for doom? They tune to C and I'll be using my Gibson Tbird.

First gig is next month so feeling the pressure a little bit!

What cab will you be using? Personally I dont have much use for mid scoops in my tone. In a doom setting you might as well turn your amp off with a mid scoop, unless you have amazing sub lows capability to sit under the guitars at a comparable level. Mids are where your tone and presence liveThere is a lot of distortion/overdrive/dirty tone used by the guys in this thread, but I wouldnt overlook your clean sound, as it offers a nice contrast, and will be the base that you build your dirty tone on.

I use a 410HE, though I also have very easy access to an old SVT II (non-pro) with a 'Peg 810. I'll experiment with bringing the mids back in also. I have been playing a lot with the blend knob on my fuzz to get that dirty on top of clean sound, seems to work pretty well at home but whenever I get a tone I'm happy with here then take it to rehearsal it's never quite the same! Thanks for the replies so far.

The 410HE is fairly mid prominent. I suggest you start with your eq set flat, and see how you like it. Then I would boost your mids all the way up, and move the mid selector around while playing to get a feel of where you are boosting, and how it sounds. Pushing low mids will let you run the mix.

And, to coattail on to this, make sure you know where your amp's "Flat EQ" actually IS. Flat does not necessarily mean "all pointers straight up at noon".

I would aim at borrowing the SVT II and 810. I used to have a 3 Pro/410he rig. It wouldn't even sound like it was on with my band, though to be fair we take loud very very seriously. I'd be surprised though if a 3pro/410he rig would work for doom if you had any more than 1 guitarist using a half stack or 2 guitarists with 212 combos. Just not a whole lotta ass in those amps. I use a 4 pro and have heard how obscenely loud they are supposed to be but I still find it a bit less than I would hope for the dooms

So the V4B I want to trade for is at my place. It's actually owned by my neighbor and friend, who coincidentally is the bassist I replaced in my band. I have been painstakingly trying to AB with my 2000s, but it's a hassle as I only have 1 15 in cab in the dwelling. My impressions: the V4B sounds awesome. I stay away from the ultras and am not fond of the mid switch freqs other than the 1000hz option. But man, this thing kicks out the lows and is much louder than the last 100w tube head I played. It easily does more lows than the 2000s, but the 2000s is louder and I cannot tell where the lows cease with high volume from the v4b. I would imagine at volume the 2000s can do just as much. Should be an interesting rig.

So the guy on reverb (I'll skip the name I did mention it before) said he couldn't make a paired fuzz face, treble booster due to the method of grounding. So I asked why and he detailed to me in a short paragraph why. Then 12 hours later sent me a massive text I assume while drunk, saying its people like me and "that other guy" who ask hundreds of questions and never know anything, read anything or understand anything about pedals and waste all of his time and in return he sold of all of his last pedals and is quitting the business because of people like me and "that other guy".

Felt like being rude back, hopefully reverb won't ban people, and dickhole was the worst word I used.

What's your deal dude? You're talking to me like you need a medication. I asked two questions basically in the realm of "hey dude I'll pay you more money if this could work?". Not everyone knows everything about pedal building hence buying them from someone even if they turn out to be a dickhole.

So sorry someone pissed in your Cheerios, slept with your wife and called you ugly, but it wasn't me and you need to chill.
