Stoner/Doom Bassists Thread, Part 90: Maxed Out

Yeah lots of mods on that little bugger. I still need to do my mod to cut the treble noise out. It is a tad noisy but a great little distortion pedal and nothing a noise gate can't tame. Nice on guitar too. Dirt cheap and has a clean blend too.
Yeah, I thought I remembered hearing it was fizzy or something. Is that what you're talking about? I DON'T want fizz, that's for sure. But if it's an easy cap swap or something, I can do that.

I was going to make a demo clip with my new P and the ODB-3 last night, but only ended up having enough free time to fire everything up and play for about 30 seconds before I had to go run errands. I'll try to do something tonight or this weekend and post it. Never owned a B3K, but the ODB is surprisingly good for grindy distortion.

More of a treble hiss to me but not that terrible. Not fizzy IMO. Yes it is a simple mod to fix if it does bother you as I had a Wampler mods one(all mods except clipping mods) about two years back(I should of kept) and it wasn't noisy at all.

I switched to pick due to pain issues in my right hand when playing fingerstyle. Here's where it geos sort of odd. I HATE the standard clang/zoing/clank noise most picks imbue to the strings. My preferred tone is Motown-y. So, after experimenting with a variety of picks, I settled on ukulele picks. Sort of felt with a stiff layer inside.

Here ya go, brother:

...I've got a couple of the less-traditional-shaped ones up top, but even though they appear to be made of identical material and same thicknesses, etc., I don't like them as much as the ones pictured on the second row for some reason.

I was also wrong about widths--they come in 3mm and 5mm. Not 2mm.

I just picked up a couple of the 3mms and haven't played em much, but I really, really am liking the 5mms.

Like I say, they can get harsh when you dig in, but just regular playing, something about the coating makes their sound (to my ears) mimic fingers pretty well. At least the thicker ones.

back to casting resin/graphite bullets today, hopefully the silicone molds haven't started to break down yet, saw L7 at La Fonda last night, left after their 6th song, i just wasn't in to it, it sounded like some bar band that couldn't decide if they wanted to sound like hole or joan jett, which is a shame, because i went in there with an open mind and the bass player was installing her bra on stage:)

I booked L7 at a club in Tulsa a loooong time back. I hate to say it, but their show sucked AND they were not...very nice people. Actually it was one of the worst experiences I ever had working with or booking any band.

Everyone has a bad day now and then, and I make allowances for that, but every member of an entire band just being as primadonna-ish and unpleasant as possible to everyone they encounter?

it made me feel way better about our performance art doom band for sure:)

some of the early ones have a really dark voice with an insane output, in fact when i use mine with the sludge band i never use boost or od pedals, because i'm naturally getting a kind of sludgier rat tone by just plugging the L2000 into my mesa d180, mine is as deep with rounds as most basses are with flat wounds, i always use deadish dunlop or xl170 nickel rounds with mine, it's kind of like a ballsier, more focused, and more even string to string p bass thing
Strange. Wasn't expecting that but it's nice and round. I just need a bit more highs but not much. Should be better with smaller new strings I hope.

I'm compiling all of the components for the pcbs I have on hand. I have two blue warblers, two vintage style SI fuzzes, two pharaohs and a one knob compressor. Lemme know if anyone wants anything. Gonna be super cheap, basically parts cost. I'm just building for practice and don't really need all of these.
I am definitely going to the post office soon!
