Stoner/Doom Bassists Thread, Part 90: Maxed Out

Precisely why I haven't touched it. Everyone's already "out to get him" and my leaving the band and what appears to be its subsequent dissolution may have already put me on that list. Don't need to do anything else to guarantee a spot there.

From all the descriptions you've written of the guy, if they're even halfway accurate, I wouldn't touch any of his stuff. Finding things in a state other than they left them seems like a sure fire opportunity for a paranoid person to insert a bunch of imagined ominous intent.

I think the P90's in the Jags are brighter then Tele pups or get a Tele model loaded with P90's. Icepickville

You referring to a jazzmaster? Or is there a jag with p90's?

I dig the Lyon tele, but kinda miss the real tele feel. At the same time never played a jaguar or other fenders aside from a strat. I want something midsy and bright. A hard tail jag would be cool, but they all seem to be be humbucker based. I want single coils, and squier prices. I always liked a brighter kerrangy guitar, but since the bass vi is more guitar like, my guitar has to be very guitar lol.

It sucks I like tremolos but 90% of the time I don't use them. I wish there was a trem with a lever to engage the float or pull back and lock into a hard tail... Patented!?!

Any input on a decent used vocal mic I might be able to scoop up cheap? Looking to get one since the band's gone and all. The vocalist (obviously) took his home. Good news is, everyone's cool with us buying the PA, and the vocalist just told me he'd take my mic stand (for which a bassist that doesn't own a mic would have no use) in lieu of being paid back his share of the PA. Net gain for me!

Shure pga48 or pga58. Really decent mics for the price.

That J Mascis Squire Jazzmaster might be up your alley and what I was thinking about. P90's always make me squirm though, a little too bright for me when I give one a diddle but when I hear them on recordings or hear them live I dig them.
I decked/locked my strat tremolos as a pseudo hard-tail. Not sure if you can deck Jazzmaster type tremolos though. I don't care much for tremolo bars except for Bigsby types.

J mascis squier Jazz I could do as I don't dig the real fenders purple.
I'm thinking now, squier series telecaster, jag, duo sonic, or that j mascis. I used to have a mim duo sonic 22.5" scale was crazy short, I loved the concept, but it was kinda hard to play chords more complex than a simple power chord.

I have no mechanical or manufacturing skills, but if I did, a strat trem, with a ratchet that you insert a truss rod hex into use as a lever, pull back to lock into hard tail, and stores your hex (nifty huh), screw down trem arm, jazzmaster length but the strat angle.

All my guitars are gone now except for an old SX/Rondo Tele copy. Went through the famous flood, but aside from electronics, seems okay. I believe I am gonna get it back up and running. I dig a trem too, but I don't think this is worth slapping a Bigsby on and those aren't exactly my favorite pieces of gear anyway.

I might just try to wrangle a cheapo Strat/copy at some point.

I think Askrere has like 47 mics now.

Amazon.com: GLS Audio Vocal Microphone ES-58 & Mic Clip - Professional Series ES58 Dynamic Cardioid Mike Unidirectional (No On/Off Switch): Musical Instruments

Decent 58 clone. I have the 57 clone, and it sounds pretty good, Compared it to my early 90s SM57, had less upper mid spike, but similar output and sound overall. 58 is same capsule, just in the wind screen.

I have a couple of these

Amazon.com: Samson Q7 Handheld Dynamic Microphone: Musical Instruments

Little more expensive, but have used for years. Very nice for male vocals, IMO.

Or troll ebay, you can sometimes find lots of used SM58s for cheap. Just make sure you clean out the windscreen/pop filter.

The tube amp I got last night was knight KM-15, 12 watt el84 12ax7 monoblock hifi amp in a homemade box. tore off the crappy vinyl cover and revealed a nice wood box already stained and finished on 4 sides. Needs cleaning and 1/4 jacks, but it looks good inside, all nos GE, tungsol and amperex tubes inside.

So I have a like 6-10 watt silvertone, 12 watt knight, 40 watt pignose, 50 watt blue voodoo, 120 watt rockmaster. Budget tube buffet.

does this actually sound this good, or am i just tired of looking for pedals at this point?

Sounds pretty good to me. Really digging it, actually. Nice and fuzzy on low notes, had good bite on higher notes, sounds great overall. I wish I needed/could justify more fuzz, but right now, being out of a band I have no reason. I actually have a love/hate relationship with fuzz. It sounds awesome when others use it, but my fuzz never quite sounds that way. I think I'm more of an OD guy, but I'm determined to find an actual fuzz pedal that works for my band! Right now I use my GK Rails pedals for a bit of fuzz, but it's not really fuzz. And my Pharaoh just never quite worked in the mix. Of course, I still love it, because it's so versatile and it sounds great solo, and there's also a huge chance that the "mix" of my previous band was crap, so that could fix a lot of sonic issues.
