Stoner/Doom Bassists Thread, Part 90: Maxed Out

I don't know what their designs are exactly (the 2-15 I used looked like a sunn 2000S cab design), but in person, they sound boss. Loud guitar cabs. For bass, I would have wanted 2-4x15s. But, great quality build.

Corey, crank that shizznizzles!

I don't know what the design is really, vaguely Matamp/Electric-ish I guess. I might have him make me 4x15 eventually, I don't know how his bass cabs are. This guitar cab is really well built and loud as fvck though. Running my guitar through my Dunwich Cthulhu Fuzz Deluxe into Mr. Grumpy at noon into the Atlas is painfully loud.

Guy with the ampeg pre sold it from under me. Oh well, one less thing to worry about at the moment.

That atlas cab looks great. I'm sure all of the in vogue doom cabs are great for guitar, and maybe I'm talkbass speaker cork sniffer jaded, but I am highly skeptical of any of their bass cabs. They just seem more about the looks than the sound. Then again I've only heard Emporer cabs. They sounded good for bass but nothing to write home about IMO.

If atlas made a 2000s cab clone I'd play ball. I feel like the shipping would give me nightmares though.

I think pretty much everything Atlas makes is just custom. Though I think there's probably a certain level of "typical" builds, based on people wanting something they've seen him build already. If I have him make me a bass cab, I think I would actually get into design and construction technique with him about it. Though honestly, I'd rather have Mark make me something, since I know he can make killer bass cabs all day long.

The shipping was about $200 or somewhere around there, which is about right if you're not crating everything yourself. I save a lot of money shipping big stuff by crating it myself, but for someone running a business that's not very efficient, time wise.

The baffle looked like a 2000S, but I have no clue what was going on internally with the cab. Live it was awesome, but I felt like it needed a second one. Keep in mind, I usually play through 4-15s and a 6-10.

Also, when I tried to order from him a long time ago, I waited 3 weeks for no response. This was the same time everyone was getting burned by Monolith. So, no communication scared me away.

Damn, sounds killer Corey. If the mids section of the EQ is a direct clone of the SVT then there should be no change with the mids knob at noon. Left of noon is cut, right of noon is boost on the SVT.

I will say that with no dirt pedals engaged it does sound a bit dirtier than my 2-pro with the gain and OD knobs all the way up, FWIW.

All in all it sounds amazing! That Atlas cab looks and sounds (as far as I can tell) incredible too! That is one goddamn classy rig you've got, congrats!

Thanks man, I dig it a lot. It's kind of hard to capture what the preamp gain maxed out really sounds like, as it's really thick and dirty sounding, but super clear and articulate because of the ultra clean power amp. I want to experiment a bit with running the Dunwich One Knob Boost into it and playing around with the mids to see what kind of dirty tone I can get without pedals. Haven't even messed with the Slave In yet, though I have a Tech 21 British waiting to try out for that. It does exactly what I wanted it to do, works great for bass or guitar as a mostly clean pedal platform. Just enough dirt on tap with the preamp to help color pedals and keep it interesting. It's impossible to tell how loud it is with a smartphone video. I turned it up to noon off camera and it was INSANELY loud through the 612. I haven't even tried going above that yet.

I was playing my lotus les Paul through the mxrocious rat into the 2PRO and 610 a while back and it worked surprisingly well after some graphic EQ tweaks, i bet your setup sounds even better. But yeah, loud as shag with endless sustaining waves filthy thick distortion. Incredible.

What's up with that little ampeg combo you scored?

Still have it, works ok, sounds pretty damn good, not really using it until i get the new power cord on it and replace the electrolytic caps. Waiting for my boss to have a free night so i can go over and raid his parts bin. I'll probably just end up keeping it. Not hurting for cash like i was when i picked it up.

If they do a 2000S clone, it would likely sound great with the right speakers.

Of the fancy doom cabs, I know the Roller ones at least sound good, as they have every time I've seen Yob.

Got a modded Fab Tone today. Sounds pretty good. Same overall tone as the standard Fab Tone, but with more noticeable changes in the distortion range. Might kick off my Black Paisley for "death metal" type sounds, but we'll see. It's a bit clearer than the Black Paisley. Gonna have to jam on it to find out for sure.

Also gave the guy that modded the Fab Tone one of my duplicate Daddy-Os to mod. Should be fun to see what he does with it.

4 pro sold quickly and unexpectedly today. Puts me in the market for a preamp and power amp. Any suggestions for a pre? I am thinking tech 21 RPM. I figure with the mid control and dialing back the sim all the way it should be a halfway decent ampegish sound with an assload of power behind it. Probably won't use a lot of the sansamp dirt and just run it clean.
