Stoner/Doom Bassists Thread, Part 90: Maxed Out

Also FWIW, the NYC EH big muff is the worst sounding big muff I have ever heard in my life.

A borrowed NYC was the first bass dirt I ever used, then a borrowed Digitech Hot Rod, then I "upgraded" to my own EHX Bass Big Muff. Also ran that NYC with a blender on bass for a minute. Once I got the Tall Font Sovtek there was no looking back.

My TB appears to be plagued with ads all of a sudden. I keep getting all of these noise making pop ups in my lower right hand corner that are ultra obnoxious. Yesterday I was the "Lucky monday winner" of either a $1000 walmart card or a $1000 best buy card. I followed through it thinking, "Talkbass doesn't/hasn't ever (to my knowledge) operated on purchase-required ad schemes". I followed it long enough to flll out an auto insurance quote and start seeing "purchase required" before I decided that just closing the browser was my best choice.

Weak... I was cool with the ad banners but pop ups are a little overboard.

On bass or guitar? It can actually be halfazzed decent on guitar into a tube amp.
I think the problem with it is that it's way too easy to get really extreme, terrible sounds out of it.

I only find it useful when I'm using wah as well.

So on a serious note. Couple questions.

Over the weekend I had to pick some speakers up from a friends house. He wasn't home and it was kind of a mess so I had to pry a bit to get them. I saw at his kitchen sink a tiny flask (chemistry kind), a burnt up spoon with white powdery residue in it and a bunch of torn up cigarettes.

Is that what I think it is? What behavioral signs/actions should I look for?

Tried to work a dude down on one but couldn't get low enough. Been thinking of trying an el cheapo Behringer Superfuzz so I may just Amazon-up one of those instead.
There are a couple on Guitar Center used for $34.99 and they don't charge that much to ship. I do love me some Superfuzz though and kind of miss my Ron Swanson. You should get both. I still want to try an EQD Park Fuzz out some day but the MXR Slash Octave is plenty fun for a bass friendly fuzz face and octavia sound plus octave down.

Thank guys. My friend Andy, that passed away yesterday was also super close to my friend that died last year. Andy had moved to Maine with his mom to try and get out of his behaviors. His behaviors followed him to Maine and he took his own life yesterday. Andy and I weren't mega close, but he was so close to my best friend, that it's hard to not revisit those feelings. Andy was a good dude, and he played in a band with two of my best friends. Andy was smart, funny, and just a good person to know. They all got into drugs pretty heavily after I moved. My friends know that my family has battled addiction and is the main reason I never went for anything hard. I would also kick my friend's asses if I knew they were in it. I've lost too many people to drugs. I'm just emotionally exhausted right now.

Did anyone catch the new legislation that allows 11 year olds to be prescribed Oxy? Yeah, this is fvcked. I'm feeling kinda pissed about it.

Suicide may be the hardest ones to take. My cousin committed suicide when she was about 20-21. We were real close as kids--close in age and looked just like each other. It was, to use a weak, obvious word, devastating to everyone who knew her.

I lost a great friend to heroin OD a few years back. What a waste of talent.

I wish I could offer something other than my condolences.

I am sure he and your other friend were far too young and that the world is a lesser place without them.

We need all the good ones we can get, and they need to stick around.

Dude, that is some bad news.

I wish I could offer advice, but I have no idea how to deal with that. I'm trying to think of something innocuous that it could be, but I can't.

Gods, that's horrible.

Lost a friend to depression/suicide a few years ago. He was young, too. I don't know how stuff could have gone differently, but I wish that it had.

I'll peep GC. They can usually ship to my local store for free. :)

Park Fuzz seemed more guitar-oriented to me. Don't you have a Terminal? That seems like it'd be the EQD fuzz I'd want to try on bass.
