Stoner/Doom Bassists Thread, Part 90: Maxed Out

I have thought about really pricing everything out to redo the rig. I like everything about the GK MB series. I am also digging the stuff from Ashdown. Sometimes I want to henge, but sometime less seems better (Like Sam's beautiful matching stack). Still would want one clean and one dirty cab. But maybe one amp and speaker stack per...? The 6-10 is working out pretty well but I doubt it could handle much bass duty. Much too shallow. The way I'm using it as a guitar cab seems cool, but maybe I need to do something different. Saw a guy use a fender bass amp setup with 2-4x12s (I think) and it sounded gnarly. Looked all clean and matching... Le sigh. Keep dreaming of that matching rig. I might try to price it out soon...

Nor do I. But peavey MIA does seem to have a cult following. I still don't see the average sale price of a fury going beyond like 200-250 bones and I doubt a buyer would be offended by a well done j pup addition unless they are a serious collector, whom which would pass on my beater fury anyway.

Sooo...a question. The Mrs. made a deal with me that if she could do something she's wanted to do (cost zero $$), which I let her do yesterday, then I could go out and get a new set of irons for the golfing. This will run north of $400 at a minimum, and I definitely don't need them, it's been more of a "I'd like to get new....". The question becomes: do I take her up on it, or do I do the smart thing and let it go? We're pretty good about the money, and saving, and having enough for emergencies and such, so it's not like it would be any dicey situation to spend it. And she DOES have a horse....

Skip the clubs, and buy four hundred dollars worth of kava. Share said kava with wife and horse.

I say go for it, the midwest seems to have an endless supply of late 80's early 90's Furys/Foundations and despite the quality they go for cheap.
T-40 prices are silly though, I love my T-40 but I'm not sure I'd pay $600 for one.

I love mine. I paid what I would like to think was a fair price. More than they generally go for, but mine(black on black) has a rosewood board, which I am very fond of. So to me it was worth it.

I like the cut of your jib, mister.

I love a good jibber. H jibber, b jibber, jib-her It's no matter I just want to jibber till I quiver.

To add to Matts P bass post,

When Fury number 2 arrives, I am really debating having someone go at my black fury with a router and slide a GZR J pup in there. I have mostly gotten over my urges to irreparably modify my basses, but I don't have a J anything and it would be cool to have that tone if I wanted it. I know Furies are cheapo basses, but thoughts on hacking into a bass that isn't produced anymore? For the record my black fury is no beauty prize. Bunch scuffs on the back and paint chips.

Do it.

You are right sir, I would pay a premium for a Black/Rosewood. Mine is a Natural like most of the others out there.
I did pay a premium for a Sunburst body, but then got cold feet about switching out the body on mine.

I say make a public declaration of banking it for something you do want.

My only question is, can you golf and rule the universe with your mega kick-@$$ bass of doom at the same time?

Yeah there's a guy on my local CL who's had a natural/maple T-40 up there as far as I can recall since the beginning of the year. $600. Has never price dropped once. Just re-ups it a couple times a week to bring it to the top.

I do dig T-40s, but for $600 I would probably get some kind of CV Squier or put another hunnerd or two with it and get a used Fender.
