I keep seeing Natural finishes go for like $500-$550 in average to good condition. Seems crazy to me but I guess it's not crazy, they've just become much more desirable.
I rescind my original comment, I feel they are a great bass and definitely worth that $500+ price tag...but it's hard for me to swallow because just a few years ago you saw them all the time around $150-300.

Mudd: I don't rule my house, much less the universe.
Squanch: more like big pimpin' at the $28-for-18-and-a-cart dog track with my regular foursome of me, a wine salesman, a machinist, and an insurance salesman.

Great basses, still worth it at the $500 tag. Fvcking boat anchors. I could never ever ever own one and gig it. I'd be in a wheel chair by the end of the month.

As said, add a couple 100 and get a better level bass. Lakland, MM, MIJ Fenders, G&L, Carvin, there are a ton of great options.

This is true, but none of those sound like a T40.

Help a brother out. Drop some knowledge on me. Actually help TWO brothers out. I have Turkeypills' Peavey Fury that I acquired on CL. It has no case. I must ship it to him. Believe it or not, in my 39 years, I've never shipped a guitar anywhere.

it seems to me there are two approaches
Double Box- pack it tightly inside a cardboard box - pack THAT box inside a cardboard box. go.
Get a case- immobilize Fury securely inside padded case. pack case inside cardboard box. go.

I just stopped by UPS store to see what options they may have. Of course they have no off-the-shelf boxes available. Gentleman said they'd have to custom make a box and that runs $30-40. Of course that goes inside ANOTHER custom box, another $30-40. few more bucks for random packing materials. Now we're creeping close to $100 before the thing even gets on the scale.

I have briefly searched for a used case. None on CL, none at local GC. no new standalone cases at GC. Cheapest new case? $49.99 online. Slightly more than custom cardboard box. Maybe even slightly more durable, who knows.

Very open to suggestions to the best path here.

@Burnsy Got a GC nearby? You can usually pick up a couple boxes from them for free. Double boxing is good. I just use a sh1tload of packing material such as peanuts, bubblewrap, wadded up newspaper, whatever to stabilize the axe in the first box. I detune the strings to release neck tension, too. I also like to put some cardboard loosely around the neck, bridge, pups (or any other sensitive area) to add a little protection. I'm pretty liberal with tape, too.

+1 to what Pelham and Kawai said. Ship FedEx it is the cheapest too. If a local shop or GC or Sam Ash don't have one the UPS stores sell a box that fits for 12 bucks I thinks it was or maybe a little more but just buy the box as they are outrageous for shipping guitars. If you got to a guitar shop you can ask for a bass box and see if they have any of any of the inner boxes that they put electric guitars inside before they place them in the larger box as you can sandwich the bass between them for more support. If you loosen the strings and bubblewrap all around the bass good and slap some extra cardboard and bubblewrap on the bottom of the box, that is good too once you stuff the crap out of the box with space filler materials, then add some more carboard and bubblewrap above the headstock before finish sealing it up and go tape crazy after.

Also butcher paper or other like materials make great stuffing.

But yeah, Fedex is the way to go.

I wouldn't want you to do anything that made you feel uncomfortable, but if GC or Sam Ash gives you grief about the boxes, you could probably just drive around back and pop your head in their dumpster and find the boxes that they may/may not "be allowed" to give out.

I also don't want to suggest anything illegal. I am not sure what the dumpster diving legislation is in AZ. Hell, I really don't know what it is here in St. Louis but I know that I see people digging through dumpsters on a regular basis unbothered anyway.

At the moment, my board only has my hail satan and speaker cranker. SC is set at noon and the gain on the HS is at 8 o' clock with the LED clippers engaged. I mentioned to my drummer that my gain settings were actually pretty low currently. He listened to me riff 10 minutes later and said, "didn't you just get finished saying how your gain was low??!" I loled hard.

GC never gives me boxes but right next door to them is Sam Ash as they always find some for me, the best part is a manager guy from GC is now working at Sam Ash and not a manager and I asked the usual Sam Ash hottie who always gets me boxes and she made him get me three boxes a few weekends back, I thoroughly enjoyed that.

One of my first nice guitars was a T-60. It was trans burgundy, maple neck. A tank. It was goid but I didn't gel with it over much. Wanted a Tele.

I've never owned a T-40 but have played a ton of them, even gigged on a borrowed one once. They are cool. The necks on some Peavey instruments are way too thin for my tastes though.

The lady friend and I acquired an agreeable TV stand, so my 115 cab has been relieved of its TV stand duties and deployed to tower of power duties. Actually cleans my little corner up nicely.
