If you build a 2000S cab clone, one of the weirdly nice things you'll find about it is that it's about the same depth and width as a guitar cab (though obviously much taller).

This might seem inconsequential, but it has made some things simpler for Catapult, at least.

I probably won't gig with it. At least not with my current band. It may be loud, but I would be shocked if it were loud enough. Who knows though maybe I'll bring it to a one can show, or maybe I'll join a band at some point that has guitarists who use reasonable rigs. It will however be my primary home rig and what I'll take to the studio with me. Either way, it is months down the road. I plan to build with okoume to try and cut down some of the weight.

I guess anything could have a tone knob. Maybe it makes your echo-vag sound digital or 137% more analog lol.

I say digitech sounds like a cool option. I would be getting a digiverb, but I heard its volume cuts when level is max wet.

My buddy has a digiverb he's not using. I can double check if you want to see if and how much volume it cuts full wet. We just dug it out of a box the other day, so we haven't been able to run it through its paces yet.

On Saturday we drove 5 hours to Toronto to play a show. We get there and everything seems pretty cool. We were set to play halfway through an 11 band bill. everyone was mindful of their set times, except the bad before us. they went 10 minutes over their allotted 30 and took their time tearing down their gear. by the time we were ready to go we had about 20 minutes to play a set. We start the first song and everything is going fine, then as we get to a quieter part i notice there is some other music playing. Couldn't figure out what it was until we finished the first song. somehow music was playing through the PA. not sure if it was on the entire time or of it came on part way through the song, but still fvcking annoying. so we just stand there and ask if they just want us to stop, and if not, to please turn the music off. promoter finally notices and runs over to turn the music off, totally nice guy and very apologetic, he was just in over his head with so many bands. 2nd song goes off without a hitch, we ask if we have time for one more, promoter says you have 2 minutes. I said we don't have any 2 minute songs, so i guess we're done. We stick around for the rest of the show. saw a few really good bands. The guys from Blackout seemed really nice but their set was boring. Just couldn't get into it. It sounded like they only played one song...maybe they did I am not really familiar with their material. Prior to our set we had looked for a hotel room nearby but everything was sold out in downtown so we decided that after the show we would just start heading back home and stop at a hotel 30-60 min outside of Toronto. We stopped at 6 places and everything was sold out, apparently there was a NASCAR event or something happening in Toronto that weekend. We end up driving for almost 2 hours and find a hotel room just outside of Kingston. It was 4am by then, the room was technically not available because someone had smoked in there and they were trying to get rid of the smell. We said we don't care at this point. so they gave us the room at a corporate rate and we finally got to crash.

oh well.

If Canada imported NASCAR, you can't be any more civilized than us...

I live near the texas motor speedway. Like two weeks prior to a race even starting it starts building up and the highway is lined with tents scalping tickets and selling air brushed t shirts of famous racers with American/Confederate flags and majestic ass Eagles soaring.

As the race nears the grounds become a shanty town where from what I heard the skoal flows like wine and teeth be rarer than hens teeth.

So back to gear :)

Played some other cool axes at the GC on my mini vaca. While on the hunt(ish) for a 5 string played the new deluxe jazz 5

It's was ok but I wasn't really wowed and felt I would probably want to swap parts. which takes takes it off the list. Too bad cause the black and maple one looks smoking hot. Played a couple higher end ibanez bases loaded with nordstrands. They both sounded ok but the string spacing was way too close for me. Also played one of those black eagle re issues. Felt cool but didn't plug it in. Also got my hands on a vintage Gibson eb4l. It had foam under the bridge that shouldn't be there and the d\g strings were super quiet. A big let down as I wanted one exactly like that for a long time. Then the clear(ish) winner

a older MM SR5. Loved how it sounded right when I plugged it in and also really liked what I could achieve with that 3 way switch. My only problem was that the g string kept falling off the neck when I played

after a quick inspection I found the g string nut slot is cut very close to the edge of the fret board. And after some reading they are all like that. I owned a 2005 MM bongo 5 and gigged it very heavy for like 2.5 years and never had that problem. So I have some more searching but it's still pretty high on the 5 string list. Maybe they fixed that issue with the new compensated but like my bongo had on it. I think all the SR5's with that new but have a alnico pickup instead of ceramic. I really liked the tone of the older sr5 and may not like the alnico as much. Only time will tell when I can get my hands on a newer MM.

I actually put way too much liner in my cab build. Since acquiring the two actual Sunn cabs, I now have an actual gauge to measure against, and with all the insulation in the DIY one it sounds really muted and quiet compared to the other two. I can post pics of the inside of the Yale can which is bone stock at some point, but essentially all it has is a thin layer of bed foam on the back panel, with nothing else, and it's my best sounding cab.

Anyone ever go into a pawn shop and just want to lol hard at the prices? I mean, I wouldn't want to outright offend a small business owner but sometimes their idea of value makes it seem like they are selling a piece of sentimental personal gear. Waltzed into a shop today and they had two vintage Ps. The first was marked at $2800. It had a jazz bass neck, a white dimarzio model P and a new badass 2. It also had 3 knobs so I'm assuming a preamp and a body that had obviously been refinished, which was also heavily worn. I was shocked they could even dream of asking that much. The other P was a heavily worn 3TS, RW and tort 1973 that they were asking 2300 for. I asked the guy if it was all original, he said yes. I then specified my question for the sake of clarity and asked if the pots and wiring were original. He asked, "Do you mean did God come down and grace this bass?".

I wanted to lol so hard at these people and let them know that in its condition w/o the OHSC, he'd better hope God had come down and graced it for him to ask that much. I wanted to offer like 800 for the first bass.


Really I just hope these guys are trying to find a sucker and didn't get suckered by "vintage" themselves. I get they need to turn a profit but the franken P was worth around $1000 in parts.

Other than that nothing cool at the place except an old peavey deuce that they wanted $300 for. I probably won't hit that shop again.

The pawn shops around here have all the MIM, Squier and Epi stuff stickered at prices higher than what Long and McQuade wants for the same stuff new. and they aren't very receptive to offers. I'm guessing they make 75% of their revenue on the predatory loans.

Another awesome practice. We're really getting stuff done. Re-worked one of the tracks again, but this time it seems final. Got another one in the works and that will make three - the amount we wanted to have to record the demo EP. Things are looking up!
BTW - my guitarist refuses to use fuzz - he exclusively uses his Joyo UD through a clean amp. It sounds pretty nice, but it aint fuzz. I even borrowed him my Cloven Hoof I don't use at the moment, but he seldom switches it on. He claims that UD works better in the mix for his ears. It's pretty OK, I guess, but it sometimes is a bit too thin for my taste.

unfortunately, i think pawn shops are where you pawn your beat power tools to buy speed and where you launder your money
i ignored the gas for once and waited to get my 90s LB100 on ebay, and i'm glad i did, i got it for 1000 dollars less than the pawn shop wanted, and mine has the evil black abalone fret markers

Well, if he wants to stay with that tone it just leaves more room for you. Crank your mids, use fuzz and fill up that space.

I loaned my OD Glove to one of my guitar players, that into his JCM800 should be crazy heavy. See if your guitarist can dial in some grit from his amp, then push that with the UD...
