Stoner/Doom Bassists Thread, Part 90: Maxed Out

Got the Ripper rocking last night. Sounds very "modern" to me, but then I'm used to playing my T-40 or Ric. I need to take the screws off the pickguard to confirm what the route is underneath. I think it's just routed for the PJ set up without much room to drop in a different pup w/o more routing. I do like the neck, though. A lot.

Last show I played everything on my AB1. No odd tunings at all except for two songs where I dropped the E down to D.

To me, the feel of the neck the the absolute number one priority in a bass. If your left hand doesn't like it, it's a no go. I'd say, for the price you payed, another hundy or so in guts will make this a killer bass for you. A nice platform for modding, I say.

Si, though I need a couple more jams on it before making the final the call re: keeping/modding versus flipping. Seems like it'd be tough to make a profit worth the effort by flipping an Epi.

That's the key. An Epi, you may or may not make enough to justify the flip. On the other hand, if you mod this to be a righteous gigging bass, you can use it to make moolah, whilst enjoying it.

For me the rest of the band changes up tunings. E, Eb, drop D, Drop C#, Drop C, and C standard.
While I have enough basses now to cover all those tunings, I only have one Dingwall. So I learned all the songs in standard B minus a few in drop D, and called it a day.
