Yeah, I have absolutely no problem with that, it's just funny how we go further and further away from the things we said we wanted to do when we were starting year and a half ago. As long as it's heavy and I like it, I'm cool with whatever we play.
Also: I'm going to part with phaser. As much as I wanted to use it in the band, I just haven't found a way. I'm going to try my luck with chorus again I guess. I just can't justify one empty space on my pedalboard :D

Got the black Tusq nut installed on the Jackson Outkaster MIJ guitar. Put a set of 11 gauge Daddario balanced tension stings on it and they handle C standard no problem at all, not noodles at all. Would do B standard fine too. I thought that the dude filed the nut slot depth too low but he actually cranked the truss rod as tight as I ever saw on a guitar. I can't believe it wasn't broken. Still swapped the nut to the Tusq one since I already bought it and it is a nice little upgrade and the other was filed and wanted to start fresh. Took a while to sand the sides enough to fit up against the truss rod cover. I may keep it around instead of flipping as I did the flat black pick guard and dark grey jazzmaster style body with the 3 on a side headstock.

Looooong weekend, out of town wedding for my little brother. Picked up my tux rental on Friday morning (it arrived to the store a day late), picked up the family, drove to Half Moon Bay, had a rehearsal lunch, then took off to the San Bruno/South SF/San Mateo for "bachelor party" stuff for my brother. He doesn't drink, neither do any of his friends except one, so it wasn't really a party hard atmosphere. We ate some good bbq at a little shack place, rushed over to an indoor gokart tracks and had a reserved hour or something for an organized race event. My brother has been racing hard track gokarts as a hobby with our dad since he was 12 or so, he brought his own helmet and obviously one by a wide margin over everyone. Then we went to this ice cream sandwich shop called CREAM (Cookies Rule Everything Around Me) and and headed back to Half Moon Bay to get sleep for the wedding day. It was a DIY kind of wedding, my brother actually made all the decorations and set everything up. His fiance and all the bridesmaids were getting their hairs and dresses and all that ready all day, never saw them until the ceremony, but my brother was kind of in control freak overload with getting everything setup for the reception (there was a page long itinerary he gave us all the day before). It was a beautiful ceremony, I was the best man and I managed to hold on to the ring and perform all my duties well. Nice reception, everyone had a good time, all the bridesmaids started aggressively ovulating over our son. He got a lot of attention over the weekend and my wife made the comment to me that she was pretty sure he was responsible for giving a dozen women there baby fever. I don't know if I caught something or it was just exhaustion from being on my feet and running around all weekend, but I completely pooped out Sunday, had a splitting headache, cold sweats, nausea and slept practically all day in the car and at home on the couch. Thankfully my wife took care of returning my tux rental for me and used it as an opportunity to take the boy out for some fun times and stretch his legs.

I haven't looked at the internet much since Thursday, so I haven't really kept up with the thread. Saw some fuzz talk, was too tired to chime in, as I was usually laying in bed looking at my phone before conking out when I saw it. I saw Muddslide's post though..

Please bear in mind these are rough and raw junk from the garage. Headphones facilitate hearing the bass, but you ain't missing much if you can't hear it either.

Just selected a couple of our tracks that happened to have a somewhat Wild West theme. We do a lot of different material, instros, some horror-themed stuff, originals with vox, some covers of old fuzz classics, etc.

Most of our stuff is recorded on 30 year old cassette 4 tracks.

I think it was National Lethargy and Misery Weekend. Tornado warning, heavy rains, and uber pollen counts in my neck of the woods. I was beat down with migraines and even my girlfriend was blasted with them(she rarely gets one). Tinkered with the guitars but could barely stare at my phone it hurt so much. I wish Virginia would turn into a desert :(
Good thing is at least my girlfriend likes Chelsea Wolfe, Holy Sons, Om, and Grails so at least I can let youtube play that in a loop all night to nod off and toss and turn too when migraines eff with me.

Well looks like I'll be making a new nut for this black eagle sooner than later. It's gonna be BEAD soon. Just realized where the open note buzz is coming from while sitting on the bench. Top three frets means the nut was cut shallow and possibly needs a little more relief. Top it off they are some lazy slots to the point that they could be choking the string a bit. Sucks when NBD turns into more work days.

Also want to recant my initial statement about the neck inlays. They may be actual inlays, whats odd is the filler is darker than the fretboard and lighter than the inlay so it creates a strange halo effect.

Other than this I'm still happy to have picked this booger up.

@kzr750r1 Yeah I have dealt with two nuts in the last week. The drill bits with sand paper around trick worked great for me if you have to file the replacement nut, took my time and brought all the strings down to the 0.020 feeler gauge. You could shim it up but I bought a set of brass nut shims and it looked like crap when I tried it on the Jackson. Better starting with a new Tusq nut the right size for your bass. On my bass I got a little chip in my gloss, so really make sure you exacto all around the nut. My neck was Fender made in China and they glossed the neck with the nut installed, so your is probably done better than that but just in case.

Yeah I didn't want to drop the coin on a real bass nut file set. Good thing I didn't need to file the nut on the electric guitar I swapped as I would of had to break down and buy a set for that as though gauges are too small for drill bits, even doing the G string on the bass was the smallest drill bit I had in my big set of bits. Though I heard people glue pieces of string to the sides of pop sickle sticks and get by with that.

I get ya. If there is a will there is a way.
Looking at the old nut it looks like they drilled the nut with appropriate hole size then opened the slot just enough for the string to pop in. So each one pretty much has an overhang. Pretty sloppy IMHO. But that's what you get for an over dressed jazz bass for less than half an american standard cost.

Noticing a couple edges where the finish was burned a little but this is all getting into the microscopic territory.

Never had a bound neck before. Doing me best not to scratch anything. :)

Blue painter tape is your friend.
I still need to file the ends of the new nuts I put on so I will be generously applying this before I get silly with the sandpaper.

I hate to be a scrooge, dude, but I've already got a sofa spoken for by a pal from Iowa AND my parents are in town so it's kind of a crowded non-party environment. Maybe hook up with @Turkeypills ?? I think he's making the trip, too

Small update for those not in the know. Got my g&l to stop squealing at me by replacing the springs for foam under the pickups. Also learned a little about the preamp and it's all good now. I actually rewired it slightly to the 1983 spec so I could have tone roll off on the bridge pickup as it didn't before. Came stock like that which is kinda weird. Some one had already been in there so I want worried about "value". Heck I'm still thinking of getting it. Re-fretted
