Stoner/Doom Bassists Thread, Part 90: Maxed Out

Used my Fender Rumble 100 210 combo for the "AcousticA" gig over weekend. Hadn't gigged it in forever and it sounded pretty good! Had enough juice for the small room.

After that set, I had to crank up it cvlt style on my b-day, though:

Now that I've gotten a few jams in with the Earth I can confirm it's a pretty solid Peavey clone. The non-effects channel tone sounds pretty damn clean & solid. Very pedal-friendly. The Vulcan, meanwhile, shocked the sh!t out me last night, not sure what's up but it was no bueno.

Man, work has been kicking my ass lately - new boss, new expecations. It's all really positive and welcome change, apparently I had gotten comfortable and complacent, bringing the A+ game all day every day has been mentally exhausting. Spending all of my free time on school work probably isn't helping.

Good news is I'm halfway through my math class (I shaging LOVE 8 week classes) so poopie should calm down a bit later.

Also - plugged a bass into my homemade Rat the other day (yesterday?), definitely cuts low end, but GODDAMN it sounds nasty in the best way possible. The MXR M85 really tamed a lot of the rough, raspy bite of the original Rat - something that I've been missing. Tried to replicate it on the M85 Si diode setting, but it just ain't there. Don't get wrong - it's shaging brutal as hell and I love it - there's just certain Rattish things that it can't do.

Good movie plot. Corpse looks all normal, then, when they do the autopsy, it looks like Mr. SlimJim on the inside.
Edit: Then they name the killer The Desiccator, because, you know they gotta give him a catchy handle. then they gotta have a headline like "Desiccator Dries Third Victim!"

I called peavey yesterday to inquire about my power amp. I got the classic peavey response we all love, "if it fires up it can be fixed". The guy also assured me based on what I told him that it is probably just a broken solder joint. The AC cable wiggling out and cutting power wouldn't cause the issue I am describing. The guy was pretty cool. We BSed for several minutes about rigs, guitars and peavey cvlt.

The only downside is that the service center I was referred to has a 3-4week wait and they charge $75 per hour starting at the time of first testing. In other words I expect to pay $150 to get it fixed because can't imagine they won't stretch the bench time beyond an hour.

In other news, I ordered a joyo flanger and UD. Needed to get that OCD sound in my arsenal. I am also already thinking about rehousing the joyo flanger in a bigger box with a tremolo circuit, a clean blend and an order switcher footswitch.

Dang. By the time you get done with bench fees, you could buy a new amp. You don't know any electronics hobbyists who may be able to chase that down for you?

Just me, but that is a little beyond my current capabilities. I am not sure that this is the project I want to extend myself with either. The Peavey tech told me that all of the LEDs are inline with the signal and that if one of those goes out, the amp won't produce sound. When I opened up the amp, I discovered that the LEDs and pots all look to be part of some kind of module or buried underneath a module. I'm pretty bummed. When I asked the guy if he thought it was reparable, he said it could be. I guess I should have asked, "Is it financially worth it to repair this amp or am I just ****ed?"

The idea of taking apart a high power amp also makes my stones shrivel a bit.
