Stoner/Doom Bassists Thread, Part 90: Maxed Out

Oh man, if that is the main reason you were thinking of ditching this place, stick around! We'll help you out. Yes, it is a place of enablers, but it's also got a lot of people (like me) who suffer some GAS with no possible outlet. I just scored a cheap combo amp as well as a $40 Squier bass and a $40 Strat knockoff, but that was my first gear purchase in over a year and will probably be my last for a good long while (although I hope to get a couple of cheap pedals...)

Nah, GAS is fun. New stuff is always exciting, even if I can't expect to ever use any of it. I was just wonderin what else I missed.
"My name is mbelue, and I have a problem..."
That is much closer to why I've been absent. 12 step programs aren't for me, though.

In contemplating the Polara move, I think I might move the DC-3 too.

Filter talk has got me interested. A bassballs Nano with the filter trimpot mod or something else maybe but I liked it when I had it in Russian form, and this is smaller. Any other ideas?

There is this too [Invalid or Expired Link Removed]

Micro synth and a pog of some sort also on the idea list.

Tuner > ??? > dirt > filter > reverb > dirt > amp

/Waits for months for refinished bass body only to find out the fancy overpriced pickguard he bought doesn't fit.

Just worked another practice in. Need to jam a couple more before the Gilman on the 23rd. Second guitar dude is sloppy but states he's got these songs down... The core begs to differ.
Without him playing were tight... Then Train Wreck shows up. If he shows no improvement were going to be a 4 piece again. I don't mind cause it gives me some sonic room back.

Playing hardcore a pick is needed. I've always settled on Tortex .60mm. Yeah I can burn through one in a set but it's just enough tension to provide some attack without feeling like it's hanging up. I kinda play the edge of it as well and choked up on the point.
Buying direct from Dunlop in a bag of 72 gives me a year worth and I never have to see the douch at GC selling 10 in a bag for way more than they are worth.

Drunk rant part deux:

So that girl who is a 10...
Tonight found out via a surprised mutual friend, that her BF lamented that he indeed is single (and so is she) but they haven't decided to say it publicly.

Since I've mentioned it to you a couple weeks ago she keeps hitting me up like every week at least at some point or more asking what I'm doing after work, am I home, what time I'll be home etc.

Usually she buzzes me between 5pm and midnight at some point over the weekend asking some iteration of (ex: last Friday) "where are you/what are you doing"? I contact her when I see It so between 5 min-2 hours. Then she doesn't respond. Then maybe like 7-10 hours later says some weird excuse like "oh hey I asked you at 5pm on Friday 'where are you right now?' Because I want to hang out all day on Saturday, but now I'm stuck with family :("

So yea we'll see where it goes. Far as I can tell now he's been trying to win her back. So maybe that's why she's flaky as a biscuit.

Maybe I'm in a line of suitors, In which case, rubber up lol. But who knows duh hell she's up to.

In the meantime signed up for an online dating site. I tried it once before and this time did a different common site. Last common site I tried like 2 years ago I got no good matches and my message box exploded with large black women ages 19-30... Was weird and disappointing as I'm most certainly not kip dynamite and I quit two weeks in.

Brother... Don't give it a second thought. If you want to tap it call her bluff. Tell her what time to get over there and play hokey pokey.
As for dating sites... Never had any luck with those and will never go back to that tact.
For me after this divorce I'm not looking and if I don't hook up within my circle of friends... I'll expand that circle all the while remaining content I don't get into another desperate relationship.

I pretty much use Fender Confetti mediums exclusively for picks these days. I used to use Tortex .50s when I first started playing with a pick. Whether I play pick or finger style is almost entirely song dependent. If I'm practicing, I pretty much stick with fingers, and have started working in some more flamenco style stuff so I can flick with multiple fingers/nails to get a brighter attack on chords.

Also picked up the Peavey. It's an old Super Festival Series 800 Booster. Dunno if it's working right now, might need a fuse replaced, but any you have any info on them? I'll post some pics later.

Also working on that Ric situation...

Funny you mention it as I seem to do the same. While practicing the fingers are just fine. With the band there is something missing and revert back to picking.
There are some speed pick passages that need a pick so there's that.
Lately have been trying to keep consistent with the songs and down picking seems to hit the tempo/accent needed.

I've also been wanting filterness... But I "accidentally" found out that a relative is getting me a source audio bass envelope filter pro for xmas, so I have to wait until then. Sounds pretty damn good for a digital effect from the demos I've heard. It'll be nice having something that doubles as an eq pedal since I can never seem to justify buying one (not fun enough).

Week 2 of training at my new job is over! Now just another... 5, I think? Getting home at midnight has made for less bass playing, so I'm going to make up for that today and tomorrow!
