Stoner/Doom Bassists Thread, Part 90: Maxed Out

So, a few months ago I decided it was probably time to give up my office so my youngest son could have his own room.
My music gear/computer/art stuff is now relegated to a corner in a main room in the house.
The best solution in my mind (along with selling stuff off) is to move the non-essential items to the garage, however it isn't temperature regulated at all.
In the summer It is not uncommon to hit 105 degrees and drop below 0 a few degrees in the winter but Eastern WA is not very humid, it's essentially a desert/scrubland type climate.
Would I be asking for trouble if I had basses/nicer amps/cabs in the garage?
Also, going to throw a Iby Roadstar RB800 ('87 Black P/J w/ active EQ) in the classifieds this weekend. Needs tuners and bridge, body has dings/nicks. I want $100 after shipping for people here.(Shipped w/ neck off). If interested, hit me up.

I do too and rest my hand right on that sucker.
I'd keep my basses in the house, amps/cabs should be ok.

I try to keep it minimal these days, but it's hard. I see a new score like @Pelham Bleu has with that gorgeous Aria P, or start thinking again how much I want a non-reverse T-bird and...dang.
But I'm really trying to keep it to two basses, one electric guitar (actually have two of those now, although one is in pieces) and one acoustic guitar (I don't currently have one.)
Along with the associated amps, a few pedals and some recording gear, I don't really have the need or desire (or means of acquiring) a lot of stuff, but if space and time and money were no object, I gotta be honest and say I'd probably have a big ol' wall full of basses, including an upright or two.

Just one bass, no two but that's it... And a guitar, of both varieties and...
Love me some non-reverse Tbirds. Epi ones pop up every now-and-again. I wouldn't splurge on a Gibson.

Yeah, I dunno if I'll be getting an acoustic guitar anytime soon. I just never seem to use them as much as I expect I will. I'd sell that SX Tele, but in the shape it's in I couldn't get $10 for it, yet it would have cost more than $40 (what I spent on the cheapo Strat copy) to get it up and running.
I actually prefer the Epis too...bolt necks!
I also get the hankering for a nice hollow or semi-hollow bass to string with flats. truth be told, though,. at my age I'm mainly just a P-pusher. Gimme a decent P bass and I'm good to go...
I don't even need or want two basses that much really. It's just that (like the Tele copy) I have an SX P bass in pieces that I couldn't give away, so I'll probably get it fixed up someday. I have a bunch of parts for it already.

I have always been a fingers player, but have been focusing on pick play for the last 8 or 9 months so I can play faster, cleaner. It took a while but my speed is almost where I want it but more importantly my stamina is at a much more comfortable level. I can now make it through a couple shred level songs before my arm wants to fall off.
I pick from just behind the neck to just over the P pickup. Reaching down to pick by the bridge feels like an unnecessary stretch to me and it's a lot more difficult to switch strings playing fast. That and I feel like some of the thunder is lost playing a .126 C by the bridge.
I'll also add that finding the right pick is crucial. I've found that 1.5mm tortex Jazz IIIs are the business for me. Small and sharp pointed, and I love tortex.

I play all the way from the neck to right over the bridge, whether using picks or fingers. One reason I can't use bridge and pickup covers, even though I think they look cool.
I use a very wide variety of picks. I haven't settled on one thing. To me, they all feel different, sound different, and fit different types of music. For faster stuff, one specific pick may work better, for heavy, another, for more laid back stuff, something else...
I do like the Jazz IIIs and use them quite a bit. I also like the small Stubby picks in 2 mm.
I used to use Herco Flex 50s. I still like them, but I usually go for thicker gauges.
I recently discovered these Dunlop "Primetones" that come in 3 mm and 5 mm. Something about the coating on them makes the bass (to my ears) sound almost like it's being played with fingers...
