Stoner/Doom Bassists Thread, Part 90: Maxed Out

Got my MXR Bass Envelope Filter in today. It's awesome. Definitely not as versatile as my SA one, but then again, it's 20 or so filters in one. Anyway, it took a bit to dial in without getting squealy on me, but once I did, it's solid. Tried it in the mix tonight as well, and just as hoped, the two volumes kept my lows intact and the filter cut the mix like butter. Heck of a lot more present than the SA. Definitely a keeper! Might have to clean it up a bit, though, mine's got some gunk on it. No clue what it is, but it's pretty hard stuff. Goo-gone, maybe?

My BEF and OC2 are the two pedals I regret selling.

Band got an offer to open for Elder. I was very vocal in support, but it may be the day before a gig, and also a week after another gig. I'm cool with it, but the other guys don't like to play live that often. But ****... Elder...

I always figured you should take the best gig offered. Just like when on the job hunt. If one offered better exposure id do it alone before the other two if I couldn't do them all or some combo.

Agreed. The next days gig is for an ep release for a friends band though. Now that I look at a calendar I am a little confused about the dates. It may be feasible. The guys are gonna be a different story though.

I'd probably try to reason along the same lines of exposure. that if you pulled off two days in a row of decently high profile gigs considering area, genre etc. you could maybe suggest by doing so you would get better options later so you could afford to be choosier and control the schedule better while functioning better as well.

Pulled a boner leaving for practice tonight.
While charging Volto and flipping the God Botherer onto the PT mini,
Freaked out cause the pedals were not working...
Didn't want to waste time trying to figure it out...
Scrapped the chain and dug out the PT-1...
Built up a ten pedal chain on the PT-1...
Tested...
Only then realized my mistake.

I hadn't turned the bloody Volto on. DOH!
Flipped the mini chain back together and packed for the trip to the east bay.

Dammit JIM! I need more Sleep!

As for the God Botherer it may not be around long... I've never had a phaser before. This thing is just a noise maker and the sweeping wave is audible if the pedal is off and instrument muted.

Was expecting just my played notes sweeping with fuzz, but not this noise, powered it off so I could get through the set. Didn't need that faint pitch sweep in the background while muted. Before I give up will contact Abominable and be sure this isn't a lemon.

I just spent the last few nights at work catching up to you guys. Some 70 pages. I feel about the same as I did when I binge watched all nine seasons of Trailor Park Boys.

I had a super mega doomolithic multi post ready to lay on you guys but it gave our pathetic router at the club a heart attack and locked everything up for about five minutes after crashing the lame E machine computer I use at work. Damn.

Nothing really interesting anyway. Gonna try me some of that Kava stuff. I could use something to dull my hatred. Getting more mileage out of less sleep sounds tasty too, as well as that licking a stone thing.

But did anyone notice the boner. That would be embarrassing.

As for the God Botherer, that sounds like a lemon. I can't imagine a properly functioning true bypass pedal would bleed the effect.

We've got one about Battlestar Galactica series (the new one, not the old cheesy one), finishing one about that Kepler 186-f planet, the one that is presumably habitable (but it will probably be instrumental), and recently started one about the Black Knight satellite (which is pretty much a hoax/conspiracy theory/space rolled into one).
So yeah, science fiction, space and conspiracy theories.

Pretty soon I am going to start selling kava, probably sell a Fijian and a Tongan strain. Doomer hook up of course.

I can't write lyrics worth a tinker's cuss, and prefer instrumental music, at least when it comes to newer stuff in general.

Current recording project was initially intended to be all-instro, but we've tackled some covers and originals with vox, which is jake with me since my buddy is doing all the writing and singing, and he's good at it.

I may start up a solo side project...more heavy. Only trouble is I have no drums access. Just a real sh!tty, noisy old drum machine.
