Southwest Terror Fest day 1 report from Tucson.
Skeedaddled out of work at 4:20 pm (no poopie), zipped down I10 for 85 minutes to Tucson, checked into the Hotel Congress, and hustled to 191 Toole just in time to catch the 1st band of the Fest, Tucson locals
Methra ^
All their cabs have the custom Methra PVY-style badges. Nice touch. I caught their last three songs. Heavy, doom, 0% BS, awesome.

Phoenix locals, I've played with em once, super loud, three vocalists, terrific. Note right axeman's Mace + Butcher tower of kvlt.

Sludgy punk grindy filth from Albuquerque NM.
Heat Dust^
From ?? Not doom. Nice change of pace. Early Cure / mid Husker Du / Meat Puppets kind of vibe. I dug it. The booming subs in the PA were trying to make them sound like a doom band and I coulda done without that.

Just got some slight bummer news regarding my dually.
Faital apparently sold their entire last lot of 8 ohm 15PR400s to one customer apparently and stiffed the rest of the global marketplace, or so that seems to be what I have gathered. So if I want the faitals in my dually it will be another month and a half, maybe more.
I have been presented with options.
Have the cab loaded with 4 ohm 15PR400s, which are on hand, and have it wired to 2 or 8 ohms. I can have it loaded with 3015s or I can wait it out. I am not really sure which path to take. I kind of had my heart set the 15PR400s but I do not think I would be disappointed by the 3015s. Generally in these situations if I do not think option B will disappoint I give in to impulse and the quickest option. However, I am unsure if the virtue of patience should be employed here. Opinions?
@Corey Y I was digging through your soundcloud trying to find the comparison recordings you made. I found a bunch with the faital dually, but couldn't find the 3015 clips. Do you still have those?

Thought I'd drop a little teaser here for you guys. Here's some progress pics of my well over 400Watt Bass Amp. 6x KT90's, 1x ECC99, 4x 12AX7. All Polypropylene caps, (filter caps the size of soda cans) no electrolytics. Point to point wiring, and massive Mercury Magnetics Iron. SVT slaughter! Looks small in the pics, but the chassis is 22" wide, and each KT90 is about 5" tall. MASSIVE. I'm so pumped!

If he still has them, I had him do one I think a BEAD tuned p bass into a gk mb800 clean with extra low mid, faital dually. Was a good approximation of what I had wanted and let me hear the cab.

Very cool, also like the relatively compact layout for such a massive beast. I like tube heads but they are all so much bigger than my dually or columns.

Sounded great. After a while the death metal vox over doom riffs fails to excite, but some nice playing.

Totally bad ass two piece from Denver. I'd seen em before in Tempe, got their latest record. Second Hex Cabs Phase Wizard sighting. I wish every drummer I played with played like Joe does. He brought six pairs of sticks to the show, ended with one and a half sticks left.

Venue was getting super packed, I lost my place up front! These guys are something else. Violin, synth, over the top epic dynamic compositions, almost Euro symphonic metal style but without the airbrushing. two vox, one male, one female, both screamers. They were ridiculous and amazing.

Two drummers, poopie loads of amps, beyond intense.
The venue was set up with two stage areas side-by-side like this:
So there was very little downtime between bands. Pretty sweet. Then the late show afterparty was at some little shack in the middle of light industrial wasteland way far from downtown. first up Phoenix locals heavy doomers

They were bad ass, new guitar player since last show. Unfortunately vocal PA kept blowing out and sound guy didn't have clue.

Unfortunately I missed most of their set on an epic hike through the wasteland with Thou's guitarist to a gas station to get some beer, as there was none at the DIY venue. The crowd was packed in, They had a super fast grindy song and super slow doomy song and both sounded great.
Thou was up last (yes they played TWO sets that night)
But I missed it, choosing to head back to hotel and collapse having been up since 6am and having a long weekend of doomin and grinding ahead.

That one customer might be Avatar they bought a shitload of Faital speakers you might want to check their site might be able to get it there.
What amp are you running? If it's stable at 2ohm, and you don't intend to run additional cabs, that'd be my pick. I went with 8ohm 15PR400's only because I want to run 2x 215's, each at 4 ohm for a total of 2ohm with the new amp. I LOOOOVE the 15PR400's, but like you said 3015's are super great as well.

So the Hotel Congress is a super cool small two-story old-school historic hotel in the heart of Tucson and an excellent home base for Southwest Terror Fest. It's also a restaurant / dance club / music venue. Half of the rooms are immediately above the club. When you book a room, they state very clearly that it will be LOUD with bass thumping from the club, street noise, drunk people etc.
The club is also the venue for tonight's late show, headlined by none other than muhfuggin Bongripper.
I have confirmed that MY ROOM is DIRECTLY ABOVE the stage. If Ron sets up stage right, my room will be literally RIGHT ON TOP of his bass rig.
I believe I will spend at least part of the set on my room's floor getting a sensual full body Bongripper bass massage.

I don't think I ever made any clips with the Eminence loaded Dually. It was in storage at my last band's practice space pretty much full time.
