Got me thinking about how it would be if this is THE indication of intelligent life out there, but given it's distance (1500 light years) no one alive would ever be able to meaningfully contact them. Just the KNOWING, and how that would change our world. Or if it would, or instead hasten self destruction.

I think it's ludicrous to believe the only life in the universe is on Planet Earth.

Whether or not there are other humanoid-ish, possibly tech-advanced races somewhere OUT THERE is more debatable, but somewhere in this vast, possibly endless universe I think we can expect there's at least something like algae around on some other planet.

I'm as irreligious as they come, but in whatever Grand Scheme there may be (even if purely happenstance) I don't really believe humans are any more cosmically significant than a heap of carpenter ants.

Why? This is what bands generally do.

Catapult played one little bit of the first record ("Servitude") at the last show of the tour, in july, but we hadn't played anything from it for months before that, and that was the last time we played anything from it. Bands generally want to play their new stuff.

Yeah. Sure, the chances might be a hundred quadrillion to one against a place having life... but the universe is big enough that there's almost certainly somewhere else in it with life. And probably complex life, somewhere. Probably too far for us to ever get to, but I doubt we're alone.

It has actually been postulated that in an infinite universe, there would be a planet somewhere with a being exactly like you living on it.

I think space stuff is interesting but thematically most space ideas I have are like hokey country fried ideas of space mixed into the space race era.

There's a real POS abandoned old motel en route to Denton called the astro-motel, I had this idea for a song

Astro-Motel: Tales of Intergalactic sleaze

Then just riff on dirty space hookers and such. Got a couple riffs so far around a basic idea of flow, but until my drummer friend shows back up I'm kinda lazy. And generally forget stuff I do alone if I don't sit and repeat it like 30 times or write it down.

I should really do this. Endless riffs pour out, almost nothing sticks. When I have done this, I come back later and go "Oh yeah, that was actually kind of cool."

Sometimes, depending on what's coursing through my blood, I wonder if the riff really sounds as badass as I think it does at the moment.

I stopped writing lyrics almost 10 years ago. Before that I had notebooks full of stuff. I still find caches of unused lyrics from time to time, but usually they're unused for a reason. Now I just write riffs. On the topic of recording and remembering stuff, since I have my home office/mixing/recording room, I record almost every riff I play. So I have a huge file just full of riffs, some full songs. I've got riffs falling out of my butt, just no band in which to use them.

Got that Rumble 150 combo. Think it's gonna be a catch-and-release. It's decent, but I just don't think I will end up using it much. Trying to come to terms with the (probable) fact that I may very well never again jam with other people in person or play a gig again.

This hurts...I played shows incessantly in multiple bands from about 1982-2000. Loved it so much I always figured I'd get back into it, but my drummer friend in town has more or less written me off it seems, everyone else in my age group who ever ads out for a bass player wants to play effin' Clapton and Bad Company and Eagles covers and really, my health issues may preclude me from being able to haul and set up gear and wield a bass onstage unless from a wheelchair, so...

I mean, can't know what the future holds, but I can always get another amp down the road (I've got a decent practice amp) and at least I am recording like crazy these days--almost--almost--as much fun as playing live.

Figure if I sell the Rumble I could get some more recording gear, or stuff to mod a bass with, a small guitar amp or something...

Well, there could be a habitable world around a red giant star (though it would probably not have been habitable before the star was a red giant).

Actually, I remember reading the Narnia books as a kid. One of them, The Magician's Nephew features a world that is around a dying star, and its civilizations are lost and its cities are empty. That's where the White Witch is originally from, as I recall.

I occasionally record my riffs, up until now I only had my phone and bad ears so if the riff wasn't a new part to an existing song, I may not be able to retrace my steps.

I generally write a tab on paper or a phone.

@kleinenenten had the best idea, chalkboard wall. I've been meaning to buy a white board, but that's such a better idea if you own the place.

My biggest thing is I need to start legit playing again. I need like people who rely on me, to make me reliable. I'm my own worst enemy.
