If no internal control you can get one of these Saturnworks true bypass with the volume control. Though a bit pricey to just control volume. I had one for the Tyrant Fuzz and it worked great.

Sometimes when I listen to ATW I start to think they might make it in the mainstream music industry. In that small Black Keys type of niche where people still play guitars and RAWK. ATW has that swagger and groove. Plus all the extra trippy spices they throw in there.
Not a surprising result. I'll let you know what I think after tonight's Iowa city show.
It was funny, I lost my people after the Sword started, watched 2-3 songs, finished my beer and came to the decision that I'd rather be at home in bed than standing in the hot venue watching The Sword. Made my way outside and two others from the group were outside, having one last cigarette before heading home. We all had the same reaction: "Meh." The other two dudes are much bigger Sword fans than I am, and even they weren't digging it.
That's a drag to hear, but to be honest, I really only liked their first two albums. Maybe I should give the next two a revisiting. (I haven't heard High Country at all.)
I thought it was kinda interesting: when I first heard of The Sword I was living in Roanoke, Virginia. And I was born in Austin. JD Cronise was from Roanoke and moved to Austin to start the band.

I've enjoyed The Sword for a long time, I'd have to say my favorite album is Gods of the Earth (2nd one) despite the poor production, but I like all their records. High Country did throw me for a loop, it sure is a significant departure but I dig it. It won't unseat the others in my heart, but I found it overall very enjoyable; if hypothetically it had a different singer and you sat me down played the record for me I'd be like "who's this? sounds interesting, I'll check it out sometime" but it wouldn't change my life or anything.
I saw The Sword live for the first time only recently, their last tour before the new album. It was a great show, and it was very METAL, I mean really emphasizing the more metal parts of the more metal side of the band. The set was packed with mostly their heaviest stuff, with zero banter or delay between songs, just BAM BAM BAM RIFF RIFF RIFF thank you goodnight. So High Country was kind of a surprise after that. It'll be interesting to see how they construct the setlist on this tour.

I really like the Sword - all of their stuff. That being said, the new album is a huge shift in direction. Good, but not what I was hoping for. I don't really think I'd want to see that stuff live. Glad I saw them a few years ago, because they rocked it then. It was Sword and Clutch, nice pair. Anyway, I imagine the new stuff would be like my Opeth concert experience. I really like Opeth's stuff, but it's too laid-back for me live. When I'm at a show, I need to feel energy. And some stuff can be phenomenally good and I love it, but that doesn't mean it has energy. Opeth was a great show from a technical/sound/etc. standpoint, but one of my least favorite experiences at a concert. But I guess that's just me. Now the Exodus concert a few months back...
I don't think I've heard any of their albums. I saw them two years ago and it was more thrashy/metal, last night it seemed more like watered-down boogie rock. Apparently they were just playing stuff off the new record.
I was thinking about it last night - there's really nothing wrong with the band, songs are decent, everyone can play, tones and gear are good, it just never clicked with me at all.

You should run it straight into the amp and run the tone clean, as God intended.
Re: Sword, I don't really have a dog in the fight here. I have a few of their records, enjoy them for what they are but I don't feel too strongly about them one way or the other. Just solid riff-oriented heavy rock (new material notwithstanding). I saw them open for Metallica (Death Magnetic tour?) many moons ago, barely knew who they were at that time and wasn't impressed. It'll be interesting seeing them now a) in a small club rather than arena and b) being familiar with their music. Bottomline for me is we don't get a lot of heavy rock around here that I actually want to see (mostly buttrock) so why the hell not peep it on a Thursday night.
I have no idea what the lyrics of our current stuff are about.

Got me thinking about how it would be if this is THE indication of intelligent life out there, but given it's distance (1500 light years) no one alive would ever be able to meaningfully contact them. Just the KNOWING, and how that would change our world. Or if it would, or instead hasten self destruction.
