I found a Texas dude selling a pedal, messaged and made an offer a min ago. It's got 5 knobs like a fuzz factory but all labeled different, also has a fat switch and a boost switch. Unlike a fuzz factory it's silicon, but I've never tried either so what's it matter to me yet.

Once again have the Traynor up for sale and no bites, what the eff? I've put it up and got cold feet a few times in recent years. Every time I list it I assume it's probably going to be gone really fast and nothing. Last time I got a bunch of crazy lowball offers, this time nothing at all. Yet they're still very hyped amps that I see being discussed everywhere online and I'm selling mine for a good price and it hasn't been hacked up. I dunno, this area is just freakin terrible for anything music gear related. I haven't gone so far as to put it up on Reverb again.
Anyone else been listening to With The Dead? New band with Lee Dorian and the original rhythm section from EW. Dorian's vocals have enough character to be weird and interesting, but he's not as goofy as he has been in some of the later Cathedral albums and has a bit more grit. Tim Bagshaw and Mark Greening sound killer, lots of grime and lots of groove as well. Has a tone and riff structure similar to some older EW stuff, but more upbeat and rocking in tempo and feel, a bit more aggressive. Bagshaw is playing bass and guitar on the recordings, I heard they're going to play live for the first time at Roadburn but haven't heard what he's playing live or who is going to fill the other spot.

I heard the one song on the latest Obelisk podcast and thought it was pretty decent. I was worried that Lee would be in all-out-goof-mode but he's pretty restrained. Wish he would have done that a bit more with Cathedral.
I'm just glad that he's right in the zone with his vocals on this one. I feel the same way about Dorian in Cathedral as I do about Mascis in Dinosaur Jr., sometimes it's all working perfectly and I couldn't love it more and sometimes the vocals are ruining me listening to a cool song. He seems to be going for less weirdo sing song stuff and more aggressive vocals in With The Dead, but with just enough of that weird delivery to make it interesting and not do the low in the mix monotone with tons of distortion and/or reverb thing that tends to happen with a lot of similar sounding bands.
What's some good dinosaur Jr? I should try some of his non Witch stuff.
I just tried uncle Tupelo yesterday, the Anodyne album and I couldn't really get into it. It's going in the wrong direction I guess from my interests in alt country.

Lee's vocals were often out-there enough to ruin an album for me. Which sucked, because I really liked Cathedral's music, but I just couldn't hang with the goof. I tried, many times, but I just couldn't get past it on certain albums.
The albums vary a lot and some of the later ones (well, middle ones now that they've reformed) are really just J Mascis solo. If you want something a little more like raw pop/folk but played electric, the first self titled is good. You're Living All Over Me is probably their most well reviewed "classic" album and it's kind of a mix of noisy indie rock and power pop, Mascis' vocals are quirky but not off the wall. Green Mind is one of my favorites, vocals can get a bit shaky but the music is pretty varied and interesting. I had been listening to Dinosaur Jr. for a long time when I got into that album though, so I wouldn't start there. Bug is ok, I don't think there's anything really special there, though it starts off with Freak Scene, which is one of their more well known songs.

Same here, Cathedral has made some of my favorite songs, but my tolerance for some of the more far out vocals wears out pretty quick over certain albums.
Started on bug, freak scene sounds less chaotic that the name implies.

The lore of Dinosaur Jr. vs the actual album content is pretty different. Everything you read about them would make you think it's going to be an over the top noise rock explosion with crazy loud guitars and crushing vibe, they may have been that way live at some point (never seen them), but on album it's really just kind of quirky raw guitar pop that sometimes gets a little noisey for the the late 80's/early 90's indie context.
Kinda like MBV, at least in my opinion. having never seen them live, I appreciate that sound and some songs, but most of their stuff sounds very similar coming from an album only appreciation. Others have taken that sound and influence further.
There's definitely a lot of hyperbole surrounding Dino Jr. Reading the reviews can be misleading for sure. I like them well enough, saw J do his solo thing a couple of times, but never really got into the band that much.
Sorry for more digression...I agree "You're Living All Over Me" and "Bug" are not only my favorite two Dinosaur, Jr. albums, they are about the only material from them I care much for. "Green Mind" was kind of their indie-god breakthrough album, but it didn't do much for me. There are a couple tracks on their first album (just under the band name "Dinosaur" before they had to add the "Jr.") that I kind of liked..."Forget the Swan" I used to bob my head to back in the day. You should check their cover of The Cure's "Just Like Heaven."
I heard really good things about a recent D, Jr. album ("Farm?"...can't remember the title...) but I listened to it and while it was...okay...it was very samey and just endless solos all with the same dynamics and sound. Most tracks had the same volume, tempo...My ears got tired. Maybe it's cause I'm an old guy, but whenever I hear newer stuff by bands I like that have been around a good while (or re-form or whatever) I usually end up thinking "Why bother listening to this when I can just listen to their early, better stuff?"
I'm with you on Uncle Tupelo and Wilco as well, for that matter. For all the praise they got/get, I've repeatedly tried them on and just don't hear much that grabs me. Hits me as too middle of the road. I don't do middle of the road. By that I don't mean laid-back music or stuff that isn't either sludgy slow or hyperfast...just mean stuff that is mediocre. I'd rather hear something seriously sh!tty than something mediocre.
if you're coming to awol to see us at eight please bring a megaphone with siren samples, cause we're not lugging the PA for a spoken word/noise set
Forgot to mention, after Lou Barlow left/was kicked out of Dino, Jr., he kicked off Sebadoh (as well as a few other projects like Setridoh and Folk Implosion)...I didn't follow a lot of it, but Sebadoh at least had some good stuff. They did a KILLER version of Nick Drake's "Pink Moon."
Weird MBV would come up in almost the same breath as Dino, Jr. I saw them both live a long ways back and with a very few exceptions I remember thinking both bands put on about the loudest shows I have ever seen. And that's a mess of shows.
That's the reason they both get the hype they do. They played crazy loud live shows, so they have these reputations as being noisy and huge sounding bands, but the albums really don't live up to that rep.
Son Volt and Wilco got me into alt-country so I'm alright with Uncle Tupelo and it's take me back nostalgia music I guess, nothing special though. I don't dig all of Wilco but some I really like. I do like the new Star Wars album. I love all the effects sillyness that Nels Cline does on it.
