Incidentally, around the same time I had the NBD and NCD I also had a NAD and NGD...got a Fender Rumble 150 combo amp and a $40 Johnson Strat copy guitar (which I posted crappy pics of a few days ago.)

Plus I got those free pedals from a friend of mine. Banner month! I never get to score gear. This bounty is probably more music-related stuff I have bought or received or otherwise acquired since the late 1990s put together.

Have you tried tightening the speaker down? Sometimes despite best efforts they do need to be tightened.

I had some cream pickup covers I was going to put in, but they were a bit too wide for the routing in the pickguard, so rather than file the pickguard down, I just spray painted some black pickup covers cream.

Did you do krylon ivory?

I had this jazz bass no one would buy. I painted the covers creme and the pickguard red and added $150 to the price that wouldn't move it just to see and it sold the next day for like $400

Brilliant salesmanship! I still have the mostly-unused rattlecan. I believe I went with a Rustoleum ivory/cream. Not sure of the actual name. I was looking for the Krylon that is specifically made for plastics, but they didn't have it where I was looking. But I figure how much contact am I going to make with the actual pickup covers? If it starts to come off, I'll just re-do it or go ahead and finesse the pickguard route for actual cream pup covers.

Krylon redid all their cans and I think they are mostly universal now and stick to anything. Also most are a combined primer/paint so that helps.

Ceramic? That's cool as hell, IMO. My next ink is either gonna be the symbol/sigil in my avatar or a jack o'lantern. I've drawn and designed all my tats except one that came from some old '50s flash art, but for the jack o'lantern I am looking for a classic but creepy sort of Victorian-era style image. I will create it myself if need be. Not much of an artist, but not totally worthless either.

I have not. I actually don't even have a bit that fits the screws used. I was also instructed to see if it was the ports. To my ear, it is pretty clearly the speaker. Obviously I could be wrong, but I hear no other vibration. The buzz is coming from the right side of the top speaker. It really doesn't sound like anything is touching the cone to produce the noise.


Is it normal that a 100w SS head can push this cab to its limits? My beta can really get the speakers moving and seems to get close to straining the bottom speaker, which isn't buzzing. Like, it can make the cab fart out. Maybe I'm misunderstanding something, but I would have thought that a pair of 400w speakers could take whatever a 100w SS head could throw at them, all day.


I'll also note that for whatever reason it is more difficult to replicate the buzz with a tube amp, than SS. It still buzzes but more faintly and volumes/bass need to be higher in level.

Got good news on the kava I want to sell. It is good noble root. Now moving on to the second stage of seeing if I can get it in bulk amounts at a reasonable price.

@Muddlside, enjoy that gear and new vehicle, you deserve it!!! Happy for you. That bass looks sharp, I love the cream pickup covers.

I need to get some flats or tapes on the Waterstone, too much finger noise between the pups and the stainless steels I got on it.

No direct dually experience, but your Beta should not be pushing that cab anywhere near its limits. Other guys on the thread have used 1000W heads with their duallies without any issue. Sounds like you have a defective cab, sucks but you'll probably need to send it back.

At first I had my dually at a friends and only used a 50 watt head and it was great. Then I tom it home and I had a GK mb500 and it could play louder and cleaner into my 8 ohm bassic. It was weird cause it was mostly sounding good, but if you turned it up and dug in at all it would suddenly sound broken and flubby

Get the original DOD one. Probably cheaper, definitely older, questionably more nostalgic? I'm thinking I might start hoarding DOD next. I mean, I finished the Dano board, so I need something to waste time, money, and energy on now, right?

This sucks man, sorry. Hope you can get it squared away. If you need tools or what not,let me know, I have a decent selection. FWIW, I recall when I got my tube head it sounded like Azz through my previously untouchable Avatar neo 210. Very junky and cranky. But that went away with my LM2 and other heads. Sometimes stuff just doesn't work together. You can borrow an amp too if you want another known good option.


Will be at Old 97s show tonight, yeehaw!!!

I played a silver face for a minute but the distortion was broken and the amp was slightly on the fritz. Their both kinda cool but I would not pay a premium for either version. I think the beta is cooler sounding IMO but I guess the concert is supposed to be louder.

Edit: I forgot it's the Dixie Dave amp and I guess it's 200w vs the beta 100w

So I got my DOD Bifet Boost in, the older version with the 1/8in power plug. My adapter doesn't work for it! That is, I have the GC brand 1Spot, and it has an adapter for the old DOD pedals, but theirs doesn't work! It kills the power to all my other pedals, and nothing on the board works when that particular adapter is used. Dug through and found the one from 1Spot made for these pedals, works flawlessly. Ideas? What could be wrong with the other adapter? Anything I can fix?

Only thing I can think of is that the GC brand adapter is wired wrong, or it's got a short or open and it's messing up the rest of the chain.

I use the Visual Sound branded 1/8" adapters for my Rat and old DOD pedals and it's always worked fine.
