The pickups in this Epi, the Gibson TB Plus, are pretty nice. I thought they might be too bright, but they actually have a fairly dark and fat tone to them, though they get some nice grind with the right EQ/Dirt.

Yeah that is a sweet Epi model you got. I lucked out when I found those Gibby T-Bird pups for sale on here. I know I have different wood and the pups are in a little different spot on a Fender jazz body compared to a Thunderbird shape but you can still get close to the Thunderbird sound IMO. I can cop a P bass with the tone rolled off a touch sound with the neck pup solo.
They really sound different with dirt compared to the Watersone.
I had the EPI Goth T-Bird for a bit, pickups sounded KILLER. If it weren't for the horrible neck twist that sprung up (and the neck dive, and the 3-point bridge) I would still have it.
Holy **** how small are those stages? Even the smallest stages that we play can fit a 412 on either side of the kit and either a 215 or 810. There are probably smaller stages in STL, but I think my band mates who set up the gigs don't really even consider them. Most of them are not metal oriented either
Yea I've seen some people play on the floor as a gimmick but never out of desperation for space, that's at actual venues though. But these venues all expect big setups or lots of members.
There's a few places in DFW that function as venues at night and don't have stages. Ones a Mexican taqueria by day, crusty metally venue at night.

That sounds incredible. Grab some tacos and kick it for the crusty metal shows.
One venue we play is split into two stages. We normally play the larger side which is *just* large enough for two full stacks and an 810. The other side is substantially smaller. We played that side when we opened for Juscifer. The only thing things that would fit onstage was our drummer and our amps(full stacks and my 215). We played on the floor out of necessity and it was awesomely intimate. Place had a buncha people for Juscifer, and on the other side 3 of the biggest STL metal acts were playing, Black Fast, The Lions Daughter and Bastard.
Point being, if Juscifer can fit their poopie on a stage that small, you could absolutely fanagle a single big cab. I obviously don't know your venues but I'd be absolutely surprised if it couldn't be done, unless you are playing cafes or something.
Pretty small. I don't want to start ratting venues out because a gig is a gig. But its kinda BS.
I bet you've never played somewhere that has loud music playing in the next room that you can hear between your songs either. Nothing like some EDM to @$%& up the mood of your set.
Makes me realize why there are so many "power trio" doom bands. More room on stage, less gear to move, fewer seats in the touring van, and fewer people to split the pay with. On the downside you can't spread the costs around as much either.
Drown it out with volume.
I did have a sound guy give us a sound check while prerecorded music was blasting through the PA once. Not sure how that was supposed to work.
During our playing it was cool, it was just in between the songs and after we were done you could here it bleeding in from the other part of the club. It was that it was too loud, its just that it killed the mood. We are doing a rock star thing and then Night At the Roxbury pops in. Super Lame. That's happened twice now at two different venues BTW. Owners think they can split the difference and have life music a few feet and a wall away from a DJ at the bar.
This evening I put together a wood mapex meridian snare from parts I had, used a cowbell mount and got the 10x12 tama tom on the cymbal stand. 16x16 mapex Venus floor tom set to get the Pearl jungle jig and optimount to hold it. I'll sell some other drum gear to fund that piece.
I still have a bit of a love/not really love relationship with my Tbird. Love the look, love the feel, but the pups just don't quite do it for me. They seem to sound a bit too...goosey...honky but dark, just not really what I go for tone-wise. But Thunderbirds just look so freaking cool...
Really great practice tonight. 2 really good new songs basically done, another two or three in the works. Nice little impromptu jam to start things offs and we figured out an arrangement for an instrumental that's been stalled and stagnating for a while. In other words, progress.
I too am followed by the eye. Through no fault of my own but that matters not. Baby mamma messed up bad, nothing to do with me or anywhere around me mind you, and her family made a power play trying to get my daughter. Too bad for them they had no idea I was playing it straight for the last two years. Still had to jump through several hoops and an obstacle course to keep my daughter at home where she belongs. My success is their failure. It should all be over next month but I'm gonna stay gold permanently just to make sure they remain in the agony of defeat. Small price to pay as far as I'm concerned. Back stabbing mudder fvckers...

FWIW i think penco and Ibanez were the same factory. I also have a 2x4 in one of my 810's supporting a wheel the blew thru the boogerwood. Its still holding and kicking butt, lol.
