My wife and I have discussed living in an RV full time after the kids have moved out, but I've researched it quite a bit and it's really not a cheaper way to live. The only real benefits are that it's mobile and you own it (or are paying towards ownership of it.)

But I keep telling her, you have to consider:

-You are making a payment on the RV.
-You are making a payment (probably) on at least one other vehicle.
-You are paying for gas (and paying a lot if you travel in the RV to any extent)
-You are paying rental/lot fees for almost anywhere you have the thing parked (unless you own land you can camp it on)
-You are paying insurance on your vehicle(s)
-The upkeep/maintenance costs are likely quite high
-The insurance on RVs if one is your "permanent residence" is apparently crazy high.

...and I am sure there are other considerable costs I haven't accounted for here. Plus, you might be buying the supposed security of owning something, but items like this do nothing but depreciate in value and the space you are giving up is another cause for concern for me.

Yeah it might be nice to tool around and see lots of places for a little while but once you get your fix and find your favorite spot, you probably just want to be there full time or part of the year anyway. RV's are crazy expensive and I don't think I want to be surrounded by people in a transient RV park some where.
We should start a tv series, Trashy Vacation Homes.

... I had this used USA G&L ASAT 6-string on my mind. I had diddled her pretty hot and heavy on a previous lunch break last week. For some reason, I've been having a telecaster fetish off and on recently. Also a P90-equippred guitar fetish. But I had no interest in the Fender "modern player" Tele's with P90s... maybe it's the F-hole. F those F-holes right in the F-ing F-hole. But I digress.

..And today she was still there. This ASAT has the big, fat OG Leo-designed MFD single coils, nearly the size of P90s. Black, rosewood, white pearloid pickguard. I hate pearloid but oh well. Numerous dings and scratches, a couple bad abrasions on the neck. She'd been handled roughly in her past. But she was such a sweet player. I coulda sworn she was marked $799 last week but now she was $749....
