Stoner/Doom Bassists Thread, Part 90: Maxed Out

I'm scheduling a jam with another drummer. Been getting some more bites on CL ads, but mostly from people out of town. So I'm working on setting up a mutual audition of sorts, in a per hour rehearsal studio in Santa Cruz, which is about an hour away. Do you guys think I should request splitting the cost or just cover it? It's not very expensive, $16/hr or $20/hr with a backline and it's only going to be about an hour I think, maybe 2 tops.
Somewhere today in PA there is an Amish guy whispering in the ear of his favorite sheep, soon darlin', soon...
If you pay and don't click with the drummer then less guilt of not picking them maybe?
I say you cover it but if you decide to do another jam with the same guy see if he'll split it...that will also give you an idea of their commitment.
That's about in line with what I was thinking. I figure if he sucks or seems like a flake, I don't have to feel awkward about rejecting him. Which I wouldn't do in the room either way. If it moves forward then I'll just be upfront with him about splitting costs on stuff. Just waiting to hear back from him about day and time and whether he wants to bring his own kit. I'm also going to have him learn a couple songs I already recorded, so it's a focused audition and not just gabbing and trying to writer riffs spontaneously in a room. I'm trying to have high standards in putting together a new band, not be afraid to turn anything down or pass because I think I won't get a better option. I figure if I keep the standards higher right off the bat, I'll have a better experience when it comes together.

I'm trying out 2 different drummers on Saturday afternoon. Just booked a rehearsal space with a backline for a couple hours.
Nice! That sounds like a fun afternoon - hope something comes out of it.
I think you're taking the right approach, dudes that can't be bothered will back off pretty quick and serious folks will appreciate the effort and directness of what you're doing.

Great band practice tonight, it really felt like three working as one. Good timing, too, since we have a gig this weekend. Plus, we got our first ever batch of shirts in!

Super excited to get that Sonic Peavey 3620 clone tomorrow. Also my rat is fixed but the WUMBO muff is more than just a faulty foot switch like I thought it was, and the guy who built it isn't answering me so, tthat's still out of service. Looks like I'm going to be on the hunt for a real bluebeard.

Hopefully so, I've been trying to raise my standards in hopes that it will raise the quality of my personal interactions. People rarely value you more than you value yourself.

Interviewed for FTE yesterday. Internal promotion! The hiring manager has red tape to go through. Probably around three weeks, and I am in a new position. Got a bank account for band purposes. Going to do the old paypal thing so we can get merch shipped.
