Stoner/Doom Bassists Thread, Part 90: Maxed Out

Well, one of the drummers I'm auditioning on Saturday already cancelled. I'm taking it in stride and looking at it as avoiding a future problem band member. The other guy seems way more together anyway, just got to see if I can change the rehearsal studio booking time without getting charged.

I hope you don't have to wade through a bunch of flakes. I'm sending mojo your way that the one who is still on the clock is the right one.

Well, at least he cancelled instead of just not showing up. That's something.

I scored a behringer VP1 (small stone clone) on ebay yesterday. 5 bucks, has some switching issues (it's regular-looking footswitch operates a Rube Goldberg-esque contraption that pushes a little momentay switch). I've got a spare 3PDT switch hanging around so I'm going to give it the true bypass mod and see how it sounds. Probably couldn't flip it for much, but it's a cheap addition to my rapidly-growing phaser collection.

Cancelling with three day notice isn't too bad. Like Janitor said, at least you won't get a no-show. Hopefully you can get out of some of the rental time. What's the backline that they provide (or did I miss that in a post above)?

Thanks man, I hope so too. I'm pretty motivated to get moving with the songs I've written now, so if it doesn't work out I'm just going to ask one of my friends who plays drums to fill in temporarily. The guy I am still auditioning seems to be into the music and on the ball personally, so we'll see.

Too true, I started trying to convince the guy to show up. Then I thought better and just took it for the red flag it was.

I didn't post anything about it yet. Here's what the website says:

STUDIO .1 - Size - 23’ x 13’

$19 hr. Full backline – which includes:
  • Drum rig – 5 piece Pearl Forum – no cymbals
  • Bass rig - Ashdown 1000 watt with Ampeg SVT 8x10 speaker cab
  • Guitar rig - Marshall AVT 150 H with AVT 412A speaker cab
  • PA - Yamaha EMX 512 SC with 2 BR 15 speakers. 4 mics with booms.

The cymbals were an extra $5, no biggie. I asked if I could change my booking to 1.5 hours. There's pretty much nothing else booked until evening on Saturday, so I think they'll be cool. I figured an hour to jam, 15 minutes getting in and another 15 out should be cool.
