Stoner/Doom Bassists Thread, Part 90: Maxed Out

Got the cab I'm going to be using with the Traynor. Stock Celestion G12H30 may get swapped out for a V30, must test it out as is first.

Replaced the Model J's in my custom Jazz with Quarter Pounders. I dig it. A bit more scooped (due to the higher induction from the more winds/higher output) compared to the Model J's but gobs more output and growl. I prefer Alnico V to ceramic as well. Nice that they use true pole piece magnets as opposed to ceramic bars and slugs like cheaper pickups.

I agree, I used JohnK's design as a basis for my own, and it turned out great.

I do have a 470pf ceramic cap, ceramic, of unknown age. I opened up the pedal, the one that's in there is higher quality, looks like metal film or mica so I'm going shopping at a buddy's place tomorrow, he's pretty sure he's got some higher quality ones that'll work. This week isn't very busy, so I should have it turned around fairly quickly.

Also, decided I have to do more solo recording. Always have, but stepping it up.

My partner in Texas is the most creative guy on Earth but he's so schizoid it makes it hard. I am still working with him, and will continue to, and I dig it, but just since August we've veered from doing garage rock and surfy stuff to him wanting to go alt country to trying really heavy rock and then crusty, snotty punk. Now he wants to do electronic experimental noise and ambient stuff. And we've had good results already...I enjoy doing it, but it's awful hard to keep up with.

I feel like tomorrow he might very likely send me an email wanting to do old English madrigals, and the day after be on a ska kick. Not even exaggerating.

Welp, got put on indefinite leave from work yesterday due to a slow down and not having enough to do. Trying to get hired at an ISP, so hopefully that pans out soon. On the plus side, I've got a gig with the funk band tomorrow. I'll be using the 4001 into a Sunn 2000s rig, can't think of a more hilariously mismatched rig for the genre. But hey, those amps can put out a lot of low end, and it's been sounding pretty solid in practice.

We did the original Hulu paid version, then the Premium and you should hear my wife go off about this subject. She gets a real bee in her bonnet when one of those "sorry, we're showing you a commercial anyway" things comes up.
