Stoner/Doom Bassists Thread, Part 90: Maxed Out

Man people are crazy, it's 29f in Seattle and I've already seen a guy in gym shorts and a girl wearing flip flops.

I know I can't be the only one who puts on longjohns around oct-nov then peels them off come spring.
Just you man. Not even coat weather yet. ;)
Maybe a beard would help?

Ugh, band drama. Drummer and one of the guitarists have been working together on off nights to arrange songs and get them charted out. Apparently the last meeting ended badly, I stayed out of the ensuing email drama but when I showed up at practice last week all of our previous notes, charts, whiteboard diagrams were erased or torn down. Which was especially disappointing after the great progress we made the week before. No one remembers poopie, so we're in the dark again. Do we take the time to chart it all again just so it can be re-erased when someone gets upset?

I'm driving 40 miles each way for this, it's a serious time and resource suck, practices are 3 hours tops, with a 45 minute to hour long break. I like all the members, everyone is talented, when we actually focus there's results, but the gigantic steps backward are really making me question why I'm devoting the time and money to this project.

As much as I want to play, and would hate to start over, I just don't see it going anywhere.

Lame sauce.

I think you and me are the only ones in this group who would go under 33" (ric).

I'd have to paint the headstock and add a watermark. Blank head stocks look lonely.

What's spring flour? Also I always thought semolina flour was just Mexican grocery store way of saying flour, vs their more common corn based masa and such.

Spring flour is made from red wheat and is harvested in the spring when the plants are very young. It's a very high protein flour. Semolina is also very high protein flour made from durum wheat. Masa is more or less Spanish for dough. In the grocery store I may be referring to regular old unbleached flour.

@CL400Peavey My bun guy makes around 350-400 dozen buns a night. Though we do have a bun rounding machine, it's not perfect and he still has to do some hand shaping.

Been out of pocket and getting caught up here, hope y'all had a good holiday.

Played a good set with Heavycraft on Sat night, covering QOTSA's Song For The Dead slays. Practice tonight, finishing work on War Pigs & adding Search & Destroy.

Warlock (C stnd) > AD200 > borrowed GK 115. Sounded good. Got a Rainbow Machine to make big fuzzed-out swells between songs, etc.

Edit: Modded Squier P (BEAD) not pictured.

How you digging the polytune for bead? Does that strum feature thing work?

I'm guilty of that.

My thought process is usually I'm going to spend 99% of the day in heated rooms and do not need any warm clothes in them. So I'll just endure the outside transistions.

I don't like being really artificially hot. Suns fine. Also I don't like being bulked down, or looking for places to stow my layers.

That's some angry child shenanigans, and you don't just do that once. It'll surface again somehow.

Ah semolina is on pasta packages. So the dreaded gluten is the desired end of those flours!

Gigging? If yes, stay. If no, not worth it, IMO.

So I was messing around with my signal chain yesterday and decided to try a common production technique.

I had my bass running straight into the xotic Xblender(any loop pedal will work) then direct to the amp or tuner.

In the blender loop I had my compressor followed by b3k(any dirt pedal would work) then back to loop.

By having the compressor in the loop versus the direct signal chain I was able to blend the compressed signal with the uncompressed signal so I still had all the dynamics I would have lost otherwise.

Also with the b3k I can blend on the pedal and in the loop. I was able to dial in a pretty massive tone even with the flat sounding emg 40hzs. Mind you this was all through a solid state practice amp, so with tubes you might not need as much to any compression added.

You need to read up on your flour types! We have All Purpose (AP), High Gluten (HG), Semolina, Whole Grain (WG). And those are just the basics which are used for different applications in different ratios depending on what we are making.

All of our dough is mixed in a Hobart floor mixer, then weighed, cut, and rolled by hand. Our production needs dont warrant anything more than that. The trick for me is that while all that is going on, I have a stove and a series of ovens that are going full tilt with sauces and other prep items cooking off. So you cant ignore the cream that is reducing, and then you have dough proofing on the table as you are working your prep items. I am sure you understand the pain that is the dough proofing at the rate you process, so the pile doesnt look smaller. ;)

for the doom band going to play earth people by dr octagon at the next show, slowed down, sub synthed, and with feedback blips
for the instrumental band we are reworking the rhythm section, because beat boy needs the help of imac to not sound exactly like the early jesus and mary chain demos (don't get me wrong i love those guys, but we're trying to do our own thing in some respect)

Woohoo, got my test results back for my Kava from True Kava Labs. Every bulk batch I get in I will have tested for consistency even though it will always be the same strain from the same farm. I don't have my amazon shop set up yet but I have paypal if anyone wants any. Doomer Discount of course. My heat sealed mylar ziplock stand up bags fit 1/2 to 1 pounds each. I think I can fit up to 2 pounds in the Priority mail bags to save on shipping.
100 percent Noble root with a nice heady and touch of heavy chemotype of 426351
Kavalactone percentage 8.60
100% Lateral roots , no stems or leaves.

NBD. MIJ Paisley P. Got it from a guy i used to work with who got it from some guy who skipped town.
My price? $0.00.

although i will have to find a pickup for it. Any suggestions on that front? i'm thinking of a 1/4 pounder, but haven't looked into too many options that fit the '51 routing, as i just found out this thing existed/got it 2 hours ago
