Stoner/Doom Bassists Thread, Part 90: Maxed Out

I saw them in 2001 in Chicago and thought they were pretty good, two years later in Albuquerque and thought they were just ok. Not really paid attention since. I'm glad they've had as much success as they have, it's good to know that so many people can get behind a band that isn't a 3-rd generation ripoff of a band that sucked in the first place.

True, and despite the prevailing opinion of The Hunter on this forum those songs are incredible live. Being stripped down they are able to play them with far more precision and in a larger venue they leave room for the inevitable acoustic problems. A lot of the older songs that I like more on the other albums just kind of sound like a jumbled mess in comparison though it is partially their fault as they are not playing them that tightly. I really wish I would have seen them years back. I had a chance to go see them while they were touring Remission but I was super broke at the time.

im sure they nail them live because they arent difficult to play, theyre still just not very good songs tho haha.

They just come across as so powerful live and you can hear everything so well. I didn't like those songs until I saw them play them live now I love them. Though that album absolutely has more filler tracks than the other four combined.

$40 at MGR, Sounds awesome in front of my vavle junior. But mainly got it to boost my signal into the Dunwich DI. I find it isn't very loud by itself but takes pedals amazeballs, so always on booster

Nice piece of ehx history there, Max! The behringer vp1 has arrived, still in the box with all the paperwork, bubble wrap, etc. It's about as clean as it gets. I'm going to replace the fake footswitch with a real one, wire it for true bypass and see if it works. Then i might just sell it.

About to head off to a show, local stoney buds Subatomic, Carbellion is from a few hours north of here and also in the stoner realm, opening the show is the band of one of the guitar players that I've been talking to, going to check it out and say hello. Also going to blow off some steam and celebrate the fact that i have a whole lot less ******** to deal with.

Hey hey, good to be back on the front page. Took a month off reading, then two months of reading to catch up with the thread. Now I can finally comment again. In personal news, after years of playing together, my band finally has a name we all agree on. The doom aspect of our band is the glacial slowness with which we get things done. I expect in a couple years we'll have a singer, and in a couple more a proper recording.

Welp...the Sunn Beta Bass is sold. I had decided not to sell it, then someone on another forum ended up randomly bringing it up in conversation. Turned out he's in the bay area and I had to be over there for work today, so he sent me the $$ via PayPal and I met him at a Chipotle after my job site meeting and gave him the amp. Very zen, as soon as I stopped caring about selling it, someone bought it. That was the last of the gear I was trying to sell, now I need to spend some of that money I saved up.

I also heard from another drummer and a couple guitarists about trying out for the new band. Hopefully things will be coming together soon, if all goes well.

Here's a photo of the Randall r215b which was originally loaded with vintage Randal jaguar 15's, the basket on the 3015 (non LF) has a lip which makes a few centimeters to big to fit perfectly flush so i used sand paper and took my time with it and now they fit perfectly, but the speaker mounting screw holes dont match up so I'm about to make new ones, clean it out real good there was leafs and tolex shoved in it, about to rewire it with thicker speaker wire Monday I have a spool of 12 gauge laying around, the only thing I need it a washer to hold the output on the cab, I don't intend to use it though, the input is functional and ready to go.
