Stoner/Doom Bassists Thread, Part 90: Maxed Out

saw All Them Witches last night with the wife at the intimate Rebel Lounge in Phoenix. It was great, we were right up front and center. Sounded WAY better than when they opened for The Sword at the somewhat larger Club Red last fall. Of course this time it was almost all stage sound - amps and drums, and not much PA.
Here's a shot of Charles Michael Parks, Jr. and his amazing Rickenbutchered bass.

Opener L.A. Witch was also enjoyable. Lackadaisical female garage rock with some nice bass tones.

I've been listening to some on YouTube, not my normal heavy listening choice. It does seem most is just the guitar line played an octave down. Just one mega riff. Im only partially doing that, while also playing less in some fast areas to both emphasize and de-clutter the thickness of my parts. Also maybe by adding oomph and swagger it'll turn slower and more doom by osmosis.

Im pretty dead set on flats and fingers. Until my funds grow back and I can get a second amp.

Time being, I just realized my rockmaster has a hi and lo input, so I'll just run the P pickup clean as I did, and the J pickup bright switch engaged, into my DOD 250 clone cranked into the other. Get a mixed signal of grindy filth and clean and keep amp flat.

The repair bill on my Outback will be north of $4,000. The job'll take over two weeks. Gotta love comp. insurance that covers the rental, though I still have to cover the $500 deductible.

(Edit: upped to $4,800, wow.)

More gear sales...

...have another helping of venison.

Your money will get you more on a PC.
If you want to stick with Mac, that price is all right.
Depending on what photo editing software you are using you could probably get away with less. But the newest version of Photoshop that requires a web connection is a resource nightmare.

My supplier sent me some samples of the Lawena(base root stump) version of the Fijian Waka(lateral stump roots, more kavalactones) kava I sell and a sample of some Vanuatu Waka kava.
Trips me out how the volcanic soil from the different islands change the color of the ground root. Never had such a heady root from Vanuatu, usually Vanuatu root is usually more body relaxing feeling. Almost as strong as the Fiji Waka, almost. I may have to branch out to two kinds of kava.

I had a big dog chasing my car years ago back in PA. I was so nervous I was going to run it over I applied the breaks and the big derp ran head first into my car door and bounced off unharmed. Wish I had that on film and a sound clip of my little brother laughing his arse off.

ha ha, we get a lot of this in new zealand! seems strange to see it over in the states.


gassing up pretty hard for an MS-20 mini to run through my bass rig on the spare channel of the LS-2. anyone got one and can sing its praises?
