I should note though, I use Swing 66 Nickels, not Stainless. Will the DRs and Prosteels still me more similar to Nickel 66s, or do you mean they'll sound more like the SS 66s?

Hi beams are probably the brightest strings available. If not very close to it. When they wear in though they sound awesome for a long time. They are my favorite string. I use them on my T40 because it's an inherently darker sounding bass.

If we can't get the rod to accept a new truss rod nut, I believe it will be a lost cause

Couldn't a tech just pop the fretboard off, install a new truss rod, and then reattach the fretboard? Not that that's an easy procedure, and I don't know what that might cost, a new neck might be in the same price range.

On some basses a truss rod can be rethreaded with the proper tools. Without removal. Not sure how much room a g & l has.

Old Warwicks can even replace truss rods just by sliding one out and a new one in.

53 here... Like roughly 100 degrees warmer! And technically that's not "warm".

Couldn't a tech just pop the fretboard off, install a new truss rod, and then reattach the fretboard? Not that that's an easy procedure, and I don't know what that might cost, a new neck might be in the same price range.

It's not a fretboard neck, it's frets directly into the maple

How did they install it in the first place?

Like old peaveys (except they actually put a maple board on as well), it's a bicut neck. The wood is basically cut the length of the neck perpendicular to the plane of the board. Rod is installed and the neck glued together.

i don't know man, i'm not a neck construction scientist, it's flatsewn maple, and that's about all i know

if it comes down to it you might be able to salvage the neck with this.
