today we start moving and renovating our new place. of course it's the coldest day of the year. -47°C/-53°F.

I cant even imagine those numbers. That is ungodly

Next build is going to be the madbean slow sloris. Rat with a ruetz mod pot and clip switch. I'm going to add in a clean blend and possibly something else not sure though. I also got some sweet, big ass knobs. Gotta decide if I want to buy another box or use a blackish purple sparkly box. The knobs are red. The only hesitancy I have toward the box I have is that it's going to be a bitch to apply art to.

Also DIY pedal related. I had some trouble with my pharaoh clone. I got it working but am still having strange issues with the clipping switch. I replaced the Si diodes with LEDs and kept the germanium diodes. When I select germanium I get no clipping at all. When I select LED I am getting some clipping but the LEDs are not lighting up. Not to sure about it, but seeing that the pots are board mounted, it's either going to be a PITA to fix or it will be relegated to the salvage pile. That is why, as a very novice builder, I always buy two of any PCB that I want to build.

The fuzz I'm getting out of the circuit sounds killer though.

the repair man at g&l believes that i can just have somebody with the right tools slowly and carefully put the new truss rod nut on the LB100 thereby avoiding the purchase of a new neck, he said it wasn't broken, but there is some thread stripping, hopefully he's right cause a new neck is gonna be pretty darn pricey

The LEDs won't light up if they're being used as clipping diodes, that's normal. Don't know why the other setting isn't working though.

I've built a lot of poopie that didn't work, it's all part of the learning process. Still sucks though.

If that's normal then I've misunderstood in both research and personal experience. Every pedal that I've owned that contained LED clippers, they have lit up as I played. One example is the Hail Satan. In Hail Satan mode it engages LED clipping diodes. The eyes also light up as you play because they are the clippers themselves.

Again, I could be mistaken. If you have more insight I'd love to learn and pick your brain on it.

My best guess as to the other issue is that the germanium diodes are bad. A somewhat common issue from what I've gathered.


Thanks for the thought regarding the LM308Ns. At this point I doubt I'll need more rat clones than 5. I do kind of want to horde a stash for a rainy day though.

my wife, father in law and myself all got some frostbite. even in places where skin wasn't exposed to the elements...it was one of the coldest days I've ever experienced.

Monday I think I'll be getting that... Can't find anything on it. Supposedly the fancier version of the kiddo plastic version. It's a mini Wurlitzer organ. Gonna fuzz and reverb it to hell.

If we can't get the rod to accept a new truss rod nut, I believe it will be a lost cause

Couldn't a tech just pop the fretboard off, install a new truss rod, and then reattach the fretboard? Not that that's an easy procedure, and I don't know what that might cost, a new neck might be in the same price range.

It's ridiculous to me that removable truss rods are apparently still a rarity.

Me too brother. Sorry if my post sounded condescending. I'm honestly just perplexed. I'll probably take it to Matt Dunn and see if he can help me trouble shoot.

Nah, I didn't take it to be condescending. My experience with boutique pedals and clones of said boutique pedals is pretty limited. If I had yours in front of me I could probably figure out what was wrong, but it's tough over the internet.

Triple check all connections and wiring, make sure that the legs of the new diodes aren't touching anything else, check solder joints, etc. Nine ttimes out of ten when something doesn't work right for me, it's just a dumb mistake. For some reason it can be impossible to spot them sometimes, but if I put it down and walk away for a few days the problem will be glaringly obvious when I come back to it.

I've been having an uncontrollable GAS for an old Japanese Rick copy lately. There's even one available locally, but no lefties. I've been even pondering getting it and just inverting the strings, but I don't think it's a good idea. Man, being a lefty is sometimes such a bummer in this hobby.
