The John Garcia solo album is really good. Discovered Valley of the Sun last year, they do the desert rock thing very well.

Oh yeah, so I listed to the 4 Stones albums between 68-72. Great poopie. I love visiting poopie I didn't care for much when I was younger and finding it to be awesome. Same thing happened to me with the Beatles and the Doors.

My lead player was using a 5150 on the high gain channel with pregain between 3-4 and master around 5. I could keep up with my rig but I was absolutely tapped out. Any more bumps to either gain, bass or volume and the power amp started to clip like crazy. On top of that, I had some low lows but nowhere near what I can get out of almost every other rig I have had.
I understand that Duallies are not subs but I think the small form factor is incredibly limiting with bass response. On paper that may be different, but in my hands on experience I have to say that with or without my HPF the bass response is about the same. I could be doing something wrong, but I can't afford to buy another dually if it is not going to get where I want. I am abandoning ship on that idea. I'll probably look for another used 810 and put everything to rest.
I tried all of the ideas that you guys offered and I do indeed have much more potential volume from the preamp, but I'll be blowing speakers like party poppers. After additional rig swapping I have also concluded that my 2000s/215s is substantially louder and deeper than 2000s/dually. It just is. On paper that shouldn't be, but IRL it is.

This isn't to say I am dissatisfied with my dually. I love the cab. It sounds great and I think for any other application I will be set up with more than what I need. It just isn't enough for loud, down-tuned metal. Julian was right. I should have just saved for a 1515/66.

I am not really sure what if anything is defective because at low to moderate volumes everything sounds great.

The prolite is only marginally louder than the Sunn beta when I would take that to practice. I know that the betas are stupid loud for their power rating. I just don't understand why I feel like the prolite is so quiet. Both of my tube amps are also far louder.

The speakers sound incredible. But I am giving them enough juice to potentially fry them and they still aren't getting me to where I need them to.

This is why I think these cabs and class D just aren't right for me.

I think I am going to sell my rack and a few cabs, pedals and maybe a few basses and buy an SVT or a Super Bassman if I can swing it without my GF castrating me.

I'm keeping the dually for my home rig and to take to much quieter jam sessions. I may still use it for practice with my metal band and will still use it live until I can wrangle another 810.

I'm feeling pretty frustrated by the situation.

I would consider a tube power amp so that clipping is not a concern. Also something is wrong with your Dually. Its drivers should be quite a bit bassier than the JBLs in the 2000S cab (which is why I have Faitals in my 2000S cab over the EVs I used to have in there). Some class D amps have been noted for being quiet for their ratings and not as "full" as older types. Really the Dually and the 2000S cab should not be that far off from each other in sound.

Yeah. A single Dually is a powerful cab, but it is still a half-stack at most. I'm in a band with three guitarists, but they all use half-stacks.

I've thought about picking up a Dually as a touring cab. Almost rented Corey's for the Catapult tour, but ended up not needing to.

Also, why the hell did you sell your wagon for anything but another wagon or a hatchback?

I'm up against four 100w half stacks or two full stacks depending on stage real estate. One of the guitarists has a local reputation for being insanely loud. I'm about to eat a burrito and then test away. If it is a phase issue then that Kramer may be on the market immediately. I was a paycheck away from dually 2 and lost motivation after the last practice and decided to abandon ship and capitalize on a great deal. My GF WILL castrate and then leave me if I try to keep both. It's that or have a lot of luck selling cabs, pedals and basses with the quickness.

I just had a jam with a long time friend who I've surprisingly never jammed with. He is actually the younger brother of Kenny of Fister. Neither of us are sure why we've never jammed. He is super talented and a class A songwriter. I'll likely be joining his electric-era Dylan-esque folk band, but we are also jamming some more spacey experimental rock. Sounded kind of like Sigur Ros but with some heaviness added in. After all of your encouraging comments and the experience of this jam, I'm pretty convinced it's a phase issue. I was struggling to compete with his little 30w fender amp.

Nice.

And yeah, the Dually should be able to bury the Fender amp. Something's wrong with it.

Yup. Speakon to 1/4 cable and a 9v. Slight pop and both speakers pushed out. I'm kind of shocked by it. The cab is pretty loud albeit not the biggest low end air mover I've used, in my apartment. My avatar 115 moves more low end air. In the jam space all of the low lows disappear in its all upper and lower mids. At my buddies place jamming today, it could get louder than his little fender combo but far from capable of burying it. I understand that room acoustics will have an impact but in my experience, with enough amp you can usually hammer through poopy acoustics to an extent. I mean these aren't massive rooms. A loud amp and cab, I would think, would still be loud no matter what to an extent.


I'm just going to go to bed and think more on it tomorrow. This cab just has me pretty drained.

If I had an excuse to be in St Louis I'd bring mine by to compare. I'm honestly having a hard time comprehending how loud something needs to be for a dually not to be loud enough.

I have noticed however if I'm right next to my dually it sounds much different than it does a few feet away. You'd think it'd be nothing but boom but it actually makes it way more high end focused.
