As convenient and loud as my Dually is for the situations I use it (jams! everything in one trip from my pickup), I still have my 810 and use it. It's a pain to move for anything other than a real show, which I haven't played one in a few years, it's still loud and sounds awesome for certain applications. Mr. Grumpy sounds better through the 810 than the Dually for instance, just suits the voicing best. I like the sound of my GK MB800 through the Dually more though, most of the time.

The labelling doesn't matter. If your going to swap speakers in cabinets you need to get in the habit of doing the battery test that @The_Janitor suggested.

Also you don't need a TRS cable. TS is what you need.

Doesn't matter which way they move. As long as they both go the same way.

This test should be done on all used cabs. And if your like Max and have like 30 cabs. You should do the test on all of them. That way the combination of all of them has the best chance of being better.

If your Dually has one driver wired one way and the other driver wired the opposite it'll still work, but the signal coming out of the two drivers will be out of phase, which will cause cancellation and greatly reduce volume. It's entirely possible for it to still sound good, but just not have the volume output that it should.

So plug in a speaker cable with a 1/4" end and touch the TRS plug to the terminals of a 9V battery, with one terminal touching the tip and one touching the sleeve. The speakers will make a pop sound and jump outward. If they're in phase, they both push outward. If they're out of phase, one will push outward and the other will pull inward. If that happens, it's a simple matter of swapping the leads on the one of the drivers.

It's an easy enough thing to check and could be causing your issue.

Not to keep piling on, or second-guess your conclusions (you ARE dealing with a stupid amount of guitar amp volume after all), but I'd try the battery test and see what happens.

I need to do this exact same test soon. I think I actually wired up most of my Sunn cabs in reverse, since old JBLs don't go with convention, and a positive voltage on the black terminal pushes the speaker forward. Doesn't really matter when I use them with each other, but the OG cab would be wired differently, and I need to check before I run the rigs together.

I am also of the opinion they must be out of phase or something is else is wrong. While the Faital dually I have has alot more upper grind than any 810's I've played it still has enough bass to walk poopie off the cabinets upstairs. With the megalith it can actual make your eyeballs jiggle.

Had some fun at a show last week, first time playing the towns' "big venue". Decided to change things up a bit and ran a dual rig. ABY running pedal board to Carvin b2000-->2x Peavey 15" BW cabs. Running clean side to Orange Bass Terror-->Dually. Sounds gigantic...definitely going to playing around more.

Nothing is being maxed out, just like more cabs!!!

He is at a bit of a disadvantage and my view may also be skewed using a 300 watt tube amp and my guitarist just runs a 612 and a mesa dual rec.

I was sold on the dually being a better 810, lighter and small, tuned to sound louder with good drivers. No one ever told me it would be substantially louder than the 810, just an improvement.

I'm still thinking about a dually down the road. I wouldn't mind having something that loud I could fit in the back seat of my car. It sucks not being able to transport my 810, because I'm an idiot and sold my wagon in favor of a sedan.
Either that or 2 single 15s from another company.
If I get mobile again, I might start looking for another project or something.

Anybody hear any good desert rock albums in the past year?
