Stoner/Doom Bassists Thread, Part 90: Maxed Out

I like lows and mids. Can't the tweeter be turned off? I've been reading people are having better luck with the newer ones and the Heritage model.
Either way, I want a ported cab. My current sealed 810 doesn't get low enough. I need to measure my backseat. I might be able to stuff a 610 in there.
I'll see whats used at GC tomorrow.
It has an attenuator on the back, but was still getting some signal even all the way off, it seemed. Pretty much the cab I like the least. I preferred the Crate 215 I sometimes used to it, even.
From what I could tell, the one I played was basically completely absent in the mids. I'd go for something else, personally. The 610HLF goes lower than the 810, but isn't as extreme as the 410HLF.
I have no experience with fearful. I've heard a lot about them, never heard one.

There is one shop in town that carries Mesa and Berg. I'll see if they have anything. I miss Bass Emporium.

NAD. MADE IN USA 3120. More knobs than I know what to do with, and MOAR gain on tap than that.
On first power up, it red plated one of the el34s. Cleaned the tube sockets with electrical cleaner and no mo red plating! Score! Something is fvcky with the onboard channel switch, the lead and rhythm channels are blended together somehow when switched to rhythm mode, which actually sounds pretty good. The clean channel is great, 2/10/6 on the tone controls and bass tone rolled back is thumpy yet cutting, it can get decently gritty past noon. Super lemmy tones going on, grindy cutting, driven bass. The gain channels blended like their doing actually make for some very early OMish tones, gobs of bass on tap with the active EQ on these channels. Played it out of my shallow 610, and it pushed that cab perfect, just enough bass to sound like a bass but cutting as a hot knife through butter.

Since I blew out my amp at the last show, at tonight's rehearsal, I used my drummer's GK. Sounded good, similar to my head, actually... though it didn't react to fuzz pedals as well, and I don't want to sound like a tube snob, but there is something very different about the feel of tubes and solid state, even with very similar EQ.
Yeah, I'd agree. Never thought I'd have tube snob tendencies, but the first time I used the svt at practice I realized what I had been missing. The Lh1000 is goddamned loud, but it doesn't fill a room the same way as the svt. Really hard to explain with words, but the difference is real.
Yesterday I had two different instances of a local drummer into heavy music never having heard of any band I was ever in or knowing who I was. They were both in their 20's and started going to shows after the last time I played one. I realized it's been 8 years since the last show of my last REAL band that did stuff regularly. Used to be I would get calls from friends who had run into someone who knew me from music when they mentioned my name in passing and I had no idea who they were, just because I've been around in bands in this area for 20 years and recording other people for 10, but never in any hugely popular bands. I did some modifications on a drum kit in our wood shop for a drummer yesterday and he asked me what band I'm in and I had to tell him I haven't been able to start anything for years, relayed a couple stories of guys flaking that I've mentioned here and he seemed flabbergasted ("wow, that's crazy unprofessional, really??). At this point I just don't even want to mention to people that I play music, tired of explaining I don't do anything and have no prospects.
Anyone wanna buy all my gear and hit me in the head with a large brick?

The owner of that company used to email me with way too many questions about gb designs. Of course I was careful of protecting Greenboy's IP. They look similar but don't really sound similar

Meh, I wouldn't take it too personally, nobody EVER knows who I am. People that have been to multiple shows where I was UP THERE PLAYING BASS. "You were in that band?"
I even had a door guy stop me while I was doing the load-out after a set. Literally less than 5 minutes before he was checking out my pedalboard as I was playing. 2 minutes before he stopped me he opened the door for me while I carried out a cab, then stopped me on the way back in and gave me poopie for trying to get in without paying the cover. DUDE YOU JUST WATCHED ME PLAY THE BASS ON STAGE.
Sh*t, the amount of younger locals who are into the genre that claim to be HUGE Bongzilla fans that have no idea that they're from Madison is just mind-boggling.
I've had conversations with people in bars where they're saying something like:
"I love their riffs but that vocalist sucks.", all while Mike is standing 10 feet away.
"Yeah well, the guy's RIGHT THERE, maybe you should tell him to his face."
"That's the guy?!!"

Oh, I don't give a crap if anyone knows me. Just the feeling that the local music scene has completely passed me by. So it's not that no one wants to play this style of music. Apparently they just don't want to play it with me. More realistically, just don't interface with my plane of existence (over 30 I guess?). Apparently there are doom musicians/bands here, in their 20's, playing shows I haven't heard about ever and my CL ads just scream into the void or something. I dunno. I probably shouldn't post this stuff, my brain is just vomiting depression into the internet right now.
Ah, gotcha. I guess we're lucky in Madison to have both an installed scene of people in their 30's and 40's that have been around the block a few times and are still out there playing, AND the newer groups of people in their 20s. In fact, I think the older group still outnumbers the younger ones.
Internet depression is catching my soul.
I have to try to learn a couple of songs tonight. My ear is crap. The songs sound easy. It's just so much easier to see the fingerings. This should be good ear training.
The songs sound kind of middle eastern/Egyptian/Indian. I should try and figure out what scales those are. That should make jamming with them a bit easier too. Some kind of minor thing I guess.
Checking out a newer Electric Moon. Haven't listened to these guys in a while.

Being one of these youngins you guys speak of, Im flabergasted at my peers! Age is but a number, Ive actually found that I enjoy playing with older people or at least people who have been playing music since childhood like I have. Theyre much more musically mature and serious about music.
Its funny you say people hate Mikeys zilla voice. I was talking to him and one of the main reasons Dos Males is a thing is to prove he can actually sing clean vocals.
On the "being known" front, apperently not my name but PVYHenge is known around town. A few times now buddies have told me they were talking to someone and they were talking about some guy in Milwaukee owning a mountain of old Peavey. I dont really care if anyone knows me, but Im glad PVYHenge is getting out there.
All my gear is strategically hidden in several bunkers Max. Brain death first, gear later. Maybe I've verged too far into DOOM and away from stoner over the last decade, if you feel me.
That's awesome about the henge. My SR band in Albuquerque were known as the "Guys with the smoke machine." We raided a Halloween Superstore the day after halloween and spent $20 on a spinning colored light and a fog machine. Cheapest-ass light show ever but really liked it for some reason. Tons of requests for "More Smoke", none for any of our actual songs.
