Stoner/Doom Bassists Thread, Part 90: Maxed Out

Let's all take a moment to congratulate longtime Black Flag and Dos bassist Kira Roessler, who just won an Oscar as part of the sound editing team for "Mad Max: Fury Road".
shag yeah Kira Roessler, shag yeah Black Flag, shag yeah Mad Max: Fury Road.

Those aren't mountains. Those are hardly even hills!
Seriously.

How time does wear away the mighty.

Andrew Drake read my post a while back about struggling with the pickups in my bass and made an offer to help me out with it (with a ton of info on EMG pickups), along with a fresh fret job and setup. So if anyone is considering a Drake Custom bass ever, once again I couldn't give the guy a bigger endorsement. Best feeling and looking bass I have ever owned, super great guy. Now I'm just trying to figure out with 35 size pickups to throw in. Was going to do a 35P4 and 35J4 with the 2 band EQ, but I was thinking I might do a double P setup.

Going to jam with some psych band on Saturday. So I have two practices on Saturday. Then on Sunday going to jam with my guitarist (who is going to play drums) and a doom guitarist. Busy weekend.
Now I have to buy a cab or two that will fit in the back seat of my car on short notice. I was hoping to pick up a couple of Orange 15s for a good price last weekend in Dallas, but they sold.
Now I'm trying to figure out what I'm going to do.

I guess an Ampeg 410hlf? Ported 15s would be really cool though. I guess I have to see what they have at Guitar Center after work.
Not a huge selection of bass cabs on CL. There is a Berg 212. I don't know what those sound like though.

I should have never sold my wagon...

Just get an old beat up 8x10, a roof rack, and a tarp. Problem solved

Soooo much vintage PVY in PHX right now

Too bad I don't really have time to hunt any of this down... and some of the asking prices are kinda wack... and I don't need... any of it..

The only one that really tempts me is the first, That things probably older than me, you don't see many of those "Series 300" things around. The only real screamin' deal here is the Series 400 Musician for $100.

@mc_muench might be tempted in to a road trip...

400w butcher, tempting until I realized like so many clueless individuals he's selling it under the input wattage.

Many deals have not been made because I couldn't convince sellers their ultra high wattage amp is merely a regular amp and a hearty dose of misinterpretation.

Yeah I wish amp manufactures would put some additional text there so it reads something like "Maximum AC power draw = 400W NO DIPSH!T THIS IS NOT THE AUDIO OUTPUT POWER, THAT IS THE MUCH SMALLER # PRINTED OVER THERE BY THE SPEAKER JACKS, DUMBA$$"

Well, the third song is mostly done. The guys were actually complaining that it's too short (it's "only" 7 minutes, our shortest yet). There's hope we'll finally record the first EP somewhere in May, before our guitarist goes surfing for a month and forgets how to play guitar.

Jesus christ I hate my scumbag brain. Had a really easy 10 minute presentation this morning at 8:30, set my alarm 30 minutes earlier than usual because it was supposed to snow over night. Woke up at 3:30AM and couldn't get back to sleep.

I'm officially done for the day. At least I'll sleep well tonight, I guess.

I normally wake up at 3:30 am. Except Tuesdays. On Tuesday I wake up at 1:30am. Tuesday is also band practice night so I don't get to sleep until ~1:30am Wednesday morning, on which I wake up at 6:30-7am.

I second the Andrew Drake sentiment. Awesome guy, amazing builder!

Sounds like a standup guy. I will keep this in mind.

410HLFs are bleh. All sub lows, no mids, annoying tweeter. I had to use one for a while in rehearsal. Could always tell I was playing from the floor shaking, but could never tell what note I was playing. Tried to EQ around it, failed.

That sucks, dude. Scumbag brain is the worst.
