Stoner/Doom Bassists Thread, Part 90: Maxed Out

If anyone is interested, I put my Mesa Titan in the classifieds for $1,000. Just fully serviced by Mesa. I was hoping it would be great for doubling. It absolutely slays on electric but I can't get the upright sound I want. Still feel like a dummy for selling it, but I could use the dough. Also selling a Fairfield Barbershop for $140

I am thinking about putting a pair of Deltas, Deltalites or Legends in one of my shallow triangle port Peavey 215s. Unfortunately I do not have a windows OS. If anyone has the time could you run these three drivers through winISD and tell me what would be the best match for this cab unmodified? I can try to post internal dimensions, but I am not 100% sure I understand how to fully calculate them. Do I need to find the total volume of the box and then subtract the total volume of all of the bracing and the displacement of the speaker to find that "actual" total internal volume?

I've read that by adding some wood into the port you can extend the tuning lower and help open up the potential compatible speakers. Adding some wood is about as clear of instruction I have found and mud is more clear.

Just measure the overall interior dimensions and then the dimensions of all interior bracing. I think the ports on those are just triangle holes in the baffle but measure and post the LxWxD dimensions of the ports. I'll take a stab at it tomorrow if no one else can do it sooner.

The speakers I would use would be the Black Widow 1508-8 SPS BWX. I'm actually planning on using this speaker in a new bass combo.

If money was no object, I would go with the Black Widow Pro Rider 1508-8.

Both of those speakers are very forgiving about the box design, whether it's sealed/ported, or compact/large. Also, both may be used with the NEO magnet assembly. I'm not sure if they are available complete with the NEO magnet, but the baskets and magnets are available separately.

Those baskets may be used with any BW magnet that has an "X" stamped on the voice coil gap side.

Man, so I only live about 7 minutes from my job in town, and I've been going home for lunch recently. Since no one is around that time of day, I've been putting some of the Sunns through their paces. HNNNNNGGGGG. There's nothing like that sound. It's like the primordial bass tone upon which rock was laid down. It is Thor's hammer shattering the heavens and declaring THIS IS HOW BASS SOUNDS.

dont know the sciency stuffz but I know for a fact delta pros sound boobies in the shallow 215s

Just got done with GH prac and Im working on running a full henge for our next, and from here on out, gig/s. Theres enough room in Hartley so why not? You wouldnt think adding a third amp changes anything much but nope...its a whole new world compared to just 2 amps. Dialed it in tonight and OH HOT MAMA. I cant wait. 3 heads, 4 cabs ...Lucifuzz > Ghost Echo > Bifet > 800booster > 810 + Folded18 for lows. Dimed DOD250 > Carbon Copy > Supermoon > 3120 > 412 for highs and high mids and spacy modulation. Jumped Vulcan > franken 218 for cleanish blended fuzzy low mids and the coee of my tone. Only problem Ive been having is I am no tap dancer...

I'm keeping BWs in mind, but they are just too damn expensive. For $150 a driver I'd rather hold out until I can find more JBLs. I'm trying to stay at/under $100 a driver. I would pay the extra $30 for Deltalites if they are compatible for the weight savings.

If the aforementioned drivers work well, I plan on buying 4 of them. So I'd rather keep it at $400 total instead of $600. Minding that these are old beat to hell peavey cabs any speaker investment will be a money sink. Being that I already have the boxes though, I'd like to have a pair of 8ohm 215s to run under the 2000s, or V4B.

so if you remember this song started off as a riff I played out of the blue and the guys just jumped in. it evolved into a 3 min "quickie" that we were thinking of using as the opening track of the next album. Now we've added a few more parts and it's over 8 minutes long (granted almost 2 minutes in me just messing around with my phaser and reverb...if you have the patience for it. funny how songs can evolve over time.
