Stoner/Doom Bassists Thread, Part 90: Maxed Out

the basset hound has survived having the mass removed from his front left paw, i was trapped in long beach for six hours walking around the pier, eating kind of artisan burritos, and checking out the art museum (weird video of a bass fish evolving into a man, kinda slow mo)

i put a new overdrive demo on my michaelpatrickdee instagram page, that LB100 works perfectly with the mesa d180

Where do you guys get your straps? Do you just get any old thing or go with something fancier?

I have a souldier strap as my main one, but I also have one of those old style Fender straps that comes with the AV series. I've thought about saving up for a Heavy Leather NYC one at some point, I saw one years ago in a shop window that was white leather with gold conchos. Over the top and gaudy and I loved it.

Souldier strap?

I'm mainly looking for long straps. Cause I'm a fat guy.

Souldier - Custom Straps Handmade in Chicago

They do a lot of the reproduction Ace/Bobby Lee straps, I think their max standard length is 60", but you can get an additional 8" added on. They're pretty nicely made, car seatbelt material on the back, leather ends, nice woven material. But idk what style you're looking for. I went with this one:

i think I'll order the owls myself.

St. Louis CL is absurd.

There are 4 SVTs up right now.

The first, an SVT-VR for $1500 is the most reasonably priced option.

The second I reckon is the best deal for someone who has to have vintage with a 70s era for $1999.

There is also a 2007 SVT that "crackles and pops on start up but otherwise works fine" for a modest $1250, reduced from $1500.

Finally, a humdinger, a limited edition (1 of 500 apparently) "vintage" 1987 with an asking price of $3000.

These people are not selling anything. I'm tempted to email and offer like $600 for the crackle pop, or $900 for the LE.

Lol, there is also an SVT-3pro and 610 for $2500.

Yeah, same with my local kijiji. A lot of barely used SVTs and 810s going lately. I guess they were expecting bedroom compatibility.

That is bedroom compatible. Maybe not with two 810s.

I just don't understand why people post with such a high asking price on CL. People go to CL for cheap poopie. They don't normally browse to pay 10% more than the high end of market value.

What? An SVT with issues is definitely not worth more than a grand. I've seen ones that have only cosmetic wear, no actual issues, go for $800.

That '87 is likely a Skunkworks - point to point hand wired, all American components. It was an R&D project some of the original engineers undertook during one of the many times the Ampeg name changed hands. $3000 is on the steeper side, but not completely unreasonable.

The bass player in a local band I've seen a few times in the San Francisco area has one. It does sound good, though I'd be hard pressed to quantify the improvement over my SLM era SVT in a dollar amount. I imagine it's a lot less expensive to repair, though.

There is a limited run from that period called "Skunkworks". Made with NOS parts some folks got romantic about them being new built vintage.
Don't know that makes them worth 3x but still special. SVT 300 HD IIRC was the model number.(?)

Even at that, an SVT heritage is less NEW. I guess those use modern components but they are blue line at heart.

I've almost offered them $700 more than once. I mean to get that fixed, with prices the way they are here, is like a $160-200 affair. And yes, they aren't trying to sell it. I often wonder if those are wife pleaser ads. "Yeah honey, I posted it for sale" type deals.

Yeah, probably.

Speaking of which, there's a 3 month old SVT-CL with 810E for 1600 CAD (~1225 USD) on kijiji... might have to check it out.
