I have wanted an SVT for some time but it just hasn't been a priority. This post gave me a potentially genius rig idea that I'd like to pose to the S/D collective.

Suppose I were to run two 810s with an SVT and a V4B. I would use a pre-amp crossover to send, let's say, 500hz and lower to the SVT with the ultra lo engaged. I would send 500hz and up (or maybe full range) to the V4B cranked. Good Idea/terrible idea?

Why bother with an 810 if you're sending only mids and highs to the V4B?

I agree. My thoughts are this. 300w vs 100w. More speakers, more better. Especially if I could just send lows to the SVT. That 100w might need the assistance of 8-10s. Yes I agree that a sealed 810 is less than ideal, but I'm not necessarily looking for super sub lows and when's the last time you heard a SVT/810 rig and thought, "I wish there were more lows".

I guess the point of the 810s would be three fold: the visual factor of two 810s, additional speakers for the (possibly full range) 100w V4B and finally to preserve the "sound" of an ampeg tube head into an 810.

Visual factor I get. If you use a newer 810 for the V4b you could opt for just using the top half.

100w highs vs 300w lows still follows the same rules for speaker quantity.
At least double number of speakers for lows as highs.
You are essentially becoming another guitar with the V4b.

I mean, honestly, it'll be the 300 watt SVT into a single 810 that has a hard time keeping up with the mids/highs V4B into another 810. With only mids/highs, that part of the setup is basically a guitar rig. Do you think a guitar rig needs eight 10" speakers to keep up with a single SVT/fridge rig?

This is all hypothetical of course. If I owned an SVT and two 810s I would probably rock that as is. Unless I were to bring the V4B as a backup.

I've been in communication with the builder RE: my dually. So far the only answer I've gotten is that it "should" be louder than the 810. Though it clearly puts out less lows than my 810, Sunn 215 or even my 115. It is obviously louder than the 115.

No I do not. At this point my idea has shifted to using an SVT for lows and running the V4B full range.

It's just an idea. Not even a highdea. Just a drive home thought. I generally think biamp rigs are silly and overly complicated. I do like what an SVT/810 can do though and I was thinking of what a second non-SVT amp could add to an SVT.

Probably not. Running bass frequencys at all limits the volume output from an amplifier.

A another biamp idea would be run the SVT into both its own 810 and the bottom half of the second(2ohm [email protected] ohms is fine). Mo bass is mo better.

When I saw North, their bassist was just using a V4B with two bigass cabs. Loud as shag.

You could also run the SVT clean and have effects through the V4B.

Morning Doomers, back to the grind in Boringville, VA. Funny how a 700 miles can take you from enjoying the outdoors to straight back to cabin fever :)
And gents don't buy a house till you really figure out where you want to live.
Having a problem with my wrist, the first time it ever hurt playing bass this morning, so bad I couldn't keep playing. I broke it bad when I was 12 and it hurts somewhat during bad snow storms over the years but it has been hurting non stop for almost two weeks now. I hope I am not getting arthritis in it in my old age.

Brant Bjork and yerba mate are getting me through the morning.

I just saw a listing on reverb for those older Marshal Jimi Hendrix cabs, idk if you've seen them, but the extra tall bottom cabs. The listing has 4 cabs pictured, and says cabinets, but doesn't make clear if the price is for one each or all. So I messaged the guy, we'll see what he says. Cause if it's 4 cabs for the price listed, like dang, I might need to flip a 1200s head.

For those who might not have seen them, the stack on the right is a normal Marshall stack. And on the left, is the straight most pimpin'est rig Marshall ever made.
