sounds awesome. more of an always on pedal. it's not over the top distortion but a very realistic sounding OD.

For those who might not have seen them, the stack on the right is a normal Marshall stack. And on the left, is the straight most pimpin'est rig Marshall ever made.

Just read your post after this, and I admit to being slightly sad that you don't need to flip a 1200S. As I would have been interested in getting one.

Hey all !

It's been a while since I've posted there, but we finally released our first album with my instrumental stoner/psych rock band, so this seems to be a good occasion to go out from hibernation !

Ok. So I spent some time with the modded Conbustion, sold my Z1 no regrets. The Combustion is everything I really want in a bass. Passive tone is a monster. Neck is delicious single split coil. All three in series is ridiculous in a good way. Middle and bridge in series and parallel is what I love from my Musicman basses. Add in the Pre amp, and it is just glorious, and super versatile. The Darkglass really is a game changer for active basses in anything outside of the slappy tappy genres. The EQ points are actually useful especially when you are using a less than clean tone.

Is Darkglass licensing a design that Dingwall's building & inserting into the basses, or is Darkglass sending in circuit with Dingwall incorporating? Something else?

Dingwall is putting the DG pre in the NG-2 stock, and will put it in as an upgrade on their Canadian models. They wont put it in a standard Combustion. I bought one after market, and had it added to my bass when it was in the shop getting the body routing done.

I like the idea of have the tone-shaping, OD, etc. at your fingertips like that. Cool concept.

Had a good jam last night. Busted out some Church of Misery style riff off the top of my head, the drummer was very into it. We agreed to meet the same day/time next week, we'll see how that shakes out. I didn't feel like hauling out Mr. Grumpy, since I was dubious the guy would even show up, so I played through my GK MB800 and Dually, which sounded great and loud at less than half volume. I don't think I've even touched my bass in a couple months, so my hands were cramping a little, but otherwise it was no big deal.

Honestly I'm a bit sad as well. I really want to get some of those tall stacks. Sure, they might not be practical but HOW COOL DO THEY LOOK?! I would like to run an early style Marshall stack for bass some day, I mean I know they aren't renowned for big bass, but there's something about the raw and visceral, on-the-edge-of-exploding sound. If I ever do need to let the 1200s go, you guys here will be the first to know.

Rob Wright from nomeansno uses a silver jubilee head and 4x12 cab. Got to witness it live and it was almost violent the way it punched out that glorious overdriven bass tone.

The reason that drummer hit me up, is that he saw an ad I had up on CL a couple months ago and recognized the amp stack. There are definitely people who I don't personally know who would recognize Mr. Grumpy and refer to it by name.

That's awesome. We've had strangers on the street (well, friends of friends, didn't know them) that knew our cat by name and heard that he's awesome. Which he is, but it was weird.
