Stoner/Doom Bassists Thread, Part 90: Maxed Out

It's going to be a "throw it in the collection" pedal. So much of my gear I consider to be liquid, then when I want something I find that I have sold another similar item or am stuck with several cheapies or high dollar pedals that can be tricky to sell. For $42 I'd imagine I could break even pretty quickly, but I will probably just throw it in a drawer and forget about it from time to time to avoid that impulse. Besides I am geard up to build like 7 dirt boxes so I will probably just do that for a while. The only dirt I still have GAS for is an AE Demon Lung and probably a DIY tubescreamer of some kind.

Damn @Turkeypills sounds A LOT like what I went through with VEGA. My advice is if you do decide to end it, no matter how bleak the future seams there are greener riffs on the other side. You just gotta be patient and wade through shvtty jams to find the one that clicks.

Re: Darkstar... Ive had my eye on the OBN Darkstar but am aprehensive because the Procession was cool but it had some quirks that I didnt jive with.

Re: 3120... its basically a PVY XXX in newer skin. Gain for days and delicious cleans. Even sounds great for grindy lemmy bass tones.

I have a buddy who is an OBNE fanboy who has the Darkstar, Procession and Black Fountain. He described the Darkstar as more of a bass oriented reverb/delay. I was listening to him play with it and it was indeed quirky, but it sounded excellent. My creative mind doesn't really branch into reverb or delay all that much so I'm not sure what I would do with it aside from utilize the hold switch from time to time. I am also skeptical of how two footswitches side by side on the narrow edge of a 1590A would interact with my size 12.

I think that's why I love the Supermoon so much. It sounds great and is simple, but can also get weird.

@Turkeypills Been mulling over your band/tone quandary a little bit. It'd be easy to just tell bandmates to fugg off and a) play as you please or b) even leave the band, but I think that's a bad play. Decent, gigging, functioning/semi-functioning bands are difficult to come by. Unfortunately, bands can be undemocratic at times you might want to keep the peace clean up the tone a tad. That said, if you were to decide to leave, you wanna do so on good terms to a) maintain the relationship and b) keep a good rep since word spreads. One thing I would consider would be recording costs. I would hesitate to come out of pocket given creative limitations.

Another option could be to turn down the gain when they ask... then just sneak it back up gradually! :bassist: That wouldn't work on recording, though. :cool:

Found a oc-2 30 miles away for $35.

Contact the guy and after 8 hours he responds that he was sleeping, and yes it is.

I say I'll be in his area can he meet at X. He says no and it just went down hill from there. He kept saying no to everything I asked from times available to where to go. Eventually just repeatedly texting me to tell him exactly when I'll be there or he'll refuse to set an alarm and miss me around 5 times All in the span of 20 min, ending with hurry or I'll ignore you... Finally I say I'm trying to hash that out, and what's his deal, I am coming to him with money in hand.

No more response. Guess no more oc-2

I've pondered similar solutions. If I leave I'm going to do it in as professional a manner as possible. But you are correct, a decent gigging band is not easy to come by. Then again, neither is a decent bassist that wants to play bass

OC-2 is my favorite octave effect. I regret selling mine.

Thought about selling mine but got my sh!t together before pulling the trigger and kept it.

Well at 1am he said he'd meet me. This morning I get there, He didn't have a car only a bike, Lived with parents at like late 20's... Pretty sure he's a spoiled semi rich kid with a dui

Ad said $45 and $35, I said $35 and he freaked out said he had extreme demand and so $45 it was...

The guy who was supposed to buy my peavey stack in that same area in Dallas then said it looked too old and rough... Well it's 40+ years old and I said in the ad it's rough and needs cleaning. So waste of the day.

Probably gonna flip the OC-2, how do you guys use this on bass? Seems more a guitar pedal.

OC-2 doesn't track too well on low notes, but sounds great if play up higher. I like Octave 1 all the way up, Octave 2 all the way down (or just a little) and clean tone to taste. The tone a good analog synthy vibe. Running it into a fuzz can sound absolutely awesome.

When I played in standard tuning, my OC-2 tracked fine down to a G and sometimes F#. I doubt it would do much below that unless it's glitchy tracking is ones goal.

Like Matt said I loved it for mid to upper register playing and yes it does sound pretty gnar ran into a fuzz.

I don't think the 3015 comes in anything other than 8ohm.

That plug looks confusing. It appears to be a dual purpose plug serving as either a preamp in or out, but I don't know if that's even possible so I could be wrong.
