Stoner/Doom Bassists Thread, Part 90: Maxed Out

When I played in standard tuning, my OC-2 tracked fine down to a G and sometimes F#. I doubt it would do much below that unless it's glitchy tracking is ones goal.

Like Matt said I loved it for mid to upper register playing and yes it does sound pretty gnar ran into a fuzz.

I don't think the 3015 comes in anything other than 8ohm.

That plug looks confusing. It appears to be a dual purpose plug serving as either a preamp in or out, but I don't know if that's even possible so I could be wrong.

The LF isn't correct for the cab right?

Put my joyo trem back together, not so much a fan on bass.

Also my gk 400rb has crazy noise/feedback with treble or mids pushed hard. White noise as well. Read to clean some connections, and eventually replacement preamp chips with modern more efficient ones.

Think my Decimatir isn't messed up, just needs to run through effects loop, which means pedal cable octopus... Not cool

I find my GK400RB a bit noisy even at mild volumes :) but clears out when I switch it to active bass input cut. Might help till you till you swap parts. The hotter pickups I use the more I hear it and I don't dime any knobs. I run it mostly flat EQ. That little Gretsch I got taught me to engage the active dB cut switch.

Got the new Black Mountain last week, spun it a few times, it's remarkably unremarkable. They front-loaded the album with two rockin-est songs, then it quickly gets into keyboard/synth driven poppy prog-lite territory for the remainder of the record.

I dug the hell out of the experimental/proggish leanings on In the Future, and dug the hell out of the more heavy rock-oriented direction of Wilderness Hearts, but the new one just isn't grabbing me. Where's the ROCK?

I'm not even sure that anyone is playing bass on the album, they got rid of their bass player and didn't replace him, which is really concerning. It seems like the the keyboardists' left hand is doing its best job to imitate a bass player, with mediocre results.

Geddy and Manzerek are the two who can pull off that trick.

Manzerek was a mind-blowing musician and performer. I remember sitting in room full of Jazz and Classical performance majors watching some old live video of the Doors. None of those kids were remotely interested in the band before, but ALL of them were blown away by Ray's performance. Rightly so. That guy didn't get enough credit for his talent.

Doing some more Rat research. How useful are the hi/low clipping adjustments on the Rat/Cat Tail? Seems useful, but are they? I think that and the AE DSOM are my top contenders right now. I'm wanting beefy, thick sounds with some bite. Not high pitched like the Blower Box always seemed to have. So,Cat King or DSOM?

I'll try that! Flats great, well all settings are really.

I was engaging bass cut switch, Boosting treble, max all mids and flat bass. The fabtone maxed settings

Gut shot anyway, someone did a new transformer, looks very clean in there.

I received the ODB-3 and immediately thought that either buying or trading I've touched probably close to $1500-2000 worth of pedals and here this $30 box is the money shot right away.

Also got in the last necessary parts for my builds except a few cases and knobs of which are still TBD. I layed out the drill template for my 5 knob rat and taped off the area my lady I'd going to paint something on. A little clear lacquer, a little oven curing and a little assembly and it'll be good to go.

Anyone have access to any good articles on prototyping? @Satyrnine @dunwichamps ?

I'm having trouble understanding power sections and how they are connected and frankly where to start. I want to try bending some of these circuits but need to lay them out to get there.

Missed a few days of action here, as work went sideways at the end of last week.

@Turkeypills (and anyone) I'm always interested to learn about intra-band issues both about how they start and how they get resolved. I get into them often enough that [1] it's good to know I'm not the only one and [2] see how some of the vets recommend solutions to the various issues. My guitar player was asking me questions leading me to believe that he could not hear what I was playing, and I was getting too much drums in my right ear, so I slid my rig out away from the drummer a bit and pointed across the room at the guitar player. That set all his alarms off and he was afraid I was going to murder him with volume. Turns out his comments didn't mean he couldn't hear what I was playing, rather he was saying I wasn't picking up his riffs correctly. So we slid my rig back a bit and re-pointed it and I told him to straight out tell me if he thinks I'm playing something that doesn't work with the riff he's playing. Last week I went into practice with a stereo cable to set up Ric O Sound, and I didn't manage to get to the room before the other guys showed up. So I had two rigs going and was trying to get my room levels sorted during the first couple jams. Too quiet, too loud, etc.

If anyone has a line on an Orange head (or matamp or electric) please let me know. I offered for one on reverb but it didn't work out.

Musicwise, I'm still digging the new Elephant Tree. Really well done.
